   1. The Sky Tavern Kars for Kids (BMW non-event) is this coming Sunday 9/13
      1. There is a $1000 price for the most cars by a car club. Everyone is encouraged to come to the event. If we win, the money will go to the Holiday Party..
      2. Admission is $25 per car which includes a lunch.
   2. De Sharp said there are 15 cars that have signed up for the Sierra Wine Tour. The fire in Jackson may be a problem but we are tracking. There is a cost of $12 for the box lunch which needs to be paid prior to attending the event.
   3. Jeff Warner gave an update on the Street Survival on October 3rd. It looks like only 10 students are attending so far. Please sign up to volunteer.
   4. The Fun Rally will be on October 31st. Carol Villar will put on an eVite with all the details. Steve Polimeni is the sponsor and he has put together a very fun event.
3. BMW takes 3 categories in the J D Powers Initial Quality Study.
   1. The 3 series, 4 series and 5 series BMW’s won quality awards from J D Powers.
   2. Overall, BMW ranked 6th out of all car brands.
   3. BMW’s manufacturing plant in Rosslyn, South Africa won the Platinum Plant award for quality as well.
4. A video of the BMW Welt was shown which highlighted the many facets of the facility.
5. BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage Concept Car was presented. It was made to celebrate the original 3.0 CSL.
   1. The yellow color of the car is new and called Golf Yellow.
   2. The CSL was shown at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como, Italy
6. BMW Future Product Pipeline was shown to all members. The list was all BMW models that were going thru design changes in the next few years.
7. The Rennsport Tech Session was attended by three BMW members and 14 Porsche members. It was very entertaining learning about the process of diagnosing German Cars with the latest in computer technology.
8. The Potluck at the McGoff Residence set another record. 44 members showed up for the event. There is a problem with signing up for events that was evident at the Potluck. We only had 28 signed up just two days prior to the party. Pat McGoff said the there is a new system of inviting people but members must respond so we know who is coming. Members should check their Junk and Trash on their computer if they are not getting invites. Also call one of the board members if you can’t register for an event.
9. Jeff Warner brought is 2000 M5 for everyone to see. Jeff had it showcased in front of the sales area. Very nice looking M5.

   1. A Potluck dinner will replace the August meeting. It will be at Pat’s place again this year
   2. Sharon Goodrich gave an update on the 2^nd Annual Family Chapter Picnic which will be held July 12^th. This does not conflict with the normal Thursday evening club meeting. It is on the following Sunday. No refrigeration available, so bring coolers to keep things cold. 11am-9pm (all day event). Horseshoes, three legged race and more. Pool available for those wishing to swim (fee required).
   3. Poker Run also August 8^th.
3. Virginia City Drive update.
   13 cars participated. Rained the day before and the day after but was clear the day of the event. Lunch again was held at The Palace. The service was wonderful. A good time was had by all.
4. BMW has created an Apple Watch Remote app
   Currently the app is only for the i3 and i8. The watch can give Battery charge progress and current status of the charge. Helps with finding your car in parking lots. The watch can start the HVAC remote on hot or cold days. Remaining range is available for the battery. It can sound the horn in case of an emergency.
5. BMW NextGen 7 Series Digital Dash
   The new 7 series will have a Touch screen. Hand gestures will activate some functions.If you get a chance watch the video. It is very impressive technology.
6. The Goodrich’s European Delivery of M228i was presented by Sharon
   They were unable to visit the BMW Museum but did do the Factory tour. It was a real kick in the pants to drive on the Autobahn. They got to 120mph.They had no navigation in the new car so they got lost several times. They turned the car in at Munich and continued on to Spain and Turkey by train.
7. Jim Baubel passed away of brain cancer last Wednesday.
   Jim transferred from Sacramento chapter a year ago.He went on a few trips with the club over the past several months.  Many people knew him.A non-memorial will be held in Grass valley to celebrate his passing on Saturday. All are welcome to attend but you need to RSVP.

He makes color coded wiring diagrams generally for old historics. Discussed the option and legality of sending out a single email blast to the club by way of advertising. Anybody who is interested can contact Pat. The diagrams are 11” X 14” and cost $20.

General Meeting:

1. Sharon Goodrich advised that there were two new members that signed up this month. We are closing in on 170 members.
2. John English gave an update on the Virginia City Tour. He said he secured the lunch site and the ride should be similar to last year with a stop and Lake Tahoe.
3. 2014/2015 X5 Recall is about the side air bags not inflating correctly.
4. BMW is making a  mouthguard for the England rugby team. The mouthguard is in the shape of the kidney grill and is make from the material that seals the doors of a BMW.
5. The 2015 30^th Anniversary M5 originally sold for $138,275 but the Roundel has one for sale for $299,000. Only 30 cars were sold in the USA so the member apparently is trying to make a windfall profit.
6. The 3 Series Plug-in Hybrid is becoming a reality. It will have a twin-power gas engine along with an electric engine. Total horsepower is 245HP. The 3 series will get an amazing 117 mpg!

   1. Question: How many years has BMW been making the X-series? Answer: 15. The first X was the X5. The majority of the X SAV’s were made at the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.

9. Pat McGoff and Ron Nicasio attended the BMW Congress this past March. The following items:

   1. BMWCCA has created a Recognition Program to award chapters and members as well as associated companies.

   2. The BMWCCA Foundation is creating an Ambassador Program that will have volunteers from chapters to explain the Foundation to the community and associated companies.

   3. Jeff Cowan presented a Powerpoint presentation on how to engage Chapter Membership. The Golden Gate chapter uses two websites, Facebook and email blasts to contact all 3700 members.

10. Save the date, the 2016 Oktoberfest will be back in Monterey to celebrate the 100^th year of  BMW. Jeff Warner is going and would love to have as many members as possible to attend. The event will be in mid August.

5. New BMW Plant in Mexico.  Scott Blazey wrote an article in September on the new plant and how much impact it would have on increased production worldwide.

6. Trivia.  Question:  When do the windshield wipers cycle automatically to make sure they do not stick.  Answer:  If you leave your BMW sitting for a few weeks.

General Meeting: Pat McGoff, President, called the meeting to order at 6:05 pm.

1. Guests:  No guests tonight and no new members this past month (according to BMW CCA report).   A Sacramento Member and now in MinGard area, is still trying to get moved to Sierra Chapter. Longstanding BMW CCA member, attending for first time has three BMW cars and two motorcycles. 
2. Upcoming Events.  
   1. Holiday Party.  DeArmond Sharp said it will be the second Thursday of December, regular meeting date, with cocktails at his house around 5:30 pm.  Dinner will be at Bricks Restaurant and Wine Bar, 1695 South Virginia Street, which is not that far from his house.  The menu is still being finalized.  Cost to members will remain at $30.
3. BMW Chapter Support.  Sierra Chapter has received $750 so far this year from Bill Pearce for new cars.  This is important funding for the chapter and the work we do throughout each year.
4. Street Survival Recap.  Jeff Warner said we got an overall profit of $295 this year.  The funding comes from Tire Rack, Michelin and others. 
         Many items were discussed for this year’s event on October 4.  Most did prefer Mount Rose since it has more space.  Sky Tavern was a tight course and it was important to walk it once.  The oval track was too close.  The east parking lot at Mt Rose is horrible so can not use it.  With the storage work being done at Mt Rose it is hoped the lot will be repaved.  Jeff would like all comments on Sky Tavern during the Street Survival event and he would relay them to Bill Henderson. 
          “It’s more than driving – it’s about living!” is the tag line for Street Survival and all 22 students seemed to be very involved in learning all they could this year.  As far as Jeff noted, there were no students who had “an attitude” this year.  Registering with students in the cars worked better and was more thorough than having a separate table to start.  There were no incidents or close calls, just several orange cones rather brutalized. 
          NHP Trooper Chuck Allen was the guest speaker during the lunch break and he observed an hour or so of the training done.  If there are more comments – positive or negative – on the school this year, please contact Jeff Warner at jefftheskier@sbcglobal.net.
5. Wine Tour Video.  Since the TV was gone and being used downstairs by Pearce to do some updating and training, Carol Villar will be asked to send out a link to all members. Or click here, links to other videos appear at the top in the agenda. (You can see all the event videos by clicking Events under the Stuff in the website menu.)
6. BMW Safety Features.  Since 2009 collision has been highlighted by BMW.  There are 32 computers in the car with a fiberoptic backbone.  BMW Assist in 2009 began sending out 911 calls automatically and GPS also gives the location.  Agenda article had details:  Safety Systems.
7.  BMW 1 Series Sedan Spied.  Pat McGoff had another BMW CCA Roundel Weekly article attached to the agenda on a possible sighting: Spied: Baby Bimmer Set For A Come Back.
8. BMW Digital Newsletter.  Pat McGoff said the Sierra Chapter newsletter will be going digital starting with the first quarter of 2015.  The next one will be the last mailed.  There are about 160 members and all have emails except 13 members. Carol Villar will try to get their emails but if not they will have their newsletters mailed.  Members may also opt out of the newsletter which will be all color and other options to expand it from the four pages it is now. 
           John Strom said it costs about $200 per quarter to publish it in black and white.  Carol Villar will do the web page for us and will put together the newsletter too.  The BMW Magazine is also digital and on line now as BMW Magazine Digital, with completely new editions released each March and September.
9. Trivia.  Q:  Who exports the most cars from the US?  A:  BMW from Spartanburg SC.  They are also doing a $1 billion expansion which will increase Xs from 300K to 450K.  About 70 percent go out of the US.

1. Guests: Currently have 165 members.  James Barbel, Sacramento Member (still trying to get moved to Sierra Chapter).
2. Upcoming Events.
   1. Sierra Foothills Fall Wine Tour will be September 13^th and 14^th.  It should be a great time for everyone who has signed up.  All have been contacted via emails.
   2. Street Survival on October 4^th.  Jeff Warner gave a lot of updated information.  The first blast:  We are full, we have 28 students!  We need 16 in car coaches minimum, would like 20 and actually a total of 32 for helping in all areas.  As for the required training for the Street Survival Coaches, most of us could not get the first link given to work.  This one did kick Jeff out mid-test, but saved the training answers and let him finish the test on the second attempt.  So, if you have signed up to be a driving coach, please click this link.  Bill Wade and Madeline Miller sent the coach helper blast to Carol twice and it was sent out.
      As for the location changing from our Mount Rose spot to Sky Tavern, it is due to construction material being stored at Mt Rose until the middle of October.  Sky Tavern did work during the Kars For Kids event, but some structures may have to be changed to get the course set up safely.  We will have the lodge to use inside.  We are really low on coaches, help is needed!  Please go on line and sign up and get certified.

3. BMW Chapter Support. Sierra Chapter got $250 from BMW for Dan Viveiros buying a BMW X3 from Pearce and becoming a BMW CCA member.  However, several were missed this past year.  Pat will work with Mike Freitas on getting the accurate sales/sign ups done in the future.
4. August Potluck. Pat McGoff said there were 44 who attended, the same as last year.  John English’s lasagna was gone within five minutes.
5. BMW Recall Of 3 Series From 2000 to 2006 For Faulty Air Bags. This is a follow up to the partial recall done in 2011. Click here to read the autoblog article.

7. Kars 4 Kids Recap.  Jeff Warner said there were 80 cars at Sky Tavern on Mt Rose, which was half what there were last year.  It was necessary to move the function this year from Gilson’s auto facility in Sparks.  The $1000 most cars award went to Subaru!  They had 12 cars, we were third with 9 cars.  Jim Goodfellow said it was a great location, super job, great weather and it was not crowded.
8. Officers. Pat McGoff said he had changed his mind and would remain president for the next two years.  Positions needed are Secretary, Newsletter Editor and Vice President.  He has been talking with Carol Villar, who has done a great job on the website, and she might hang in there for another two years.  The positions need to be locked in by the next meeting so a vote may be done in December.
9. Newsletters. John Strom, Newsletter Editor, is gone for six months.  Short discussion on perhaps doing email of newsletters instead of mailing.  EMC Marketing has given us a quote to create the newsletter.  Estimated maybe ten members or a few more did not have email and those could be mailed.  More discussion later.
10. Dawn Hammond And Giles Marion Were In Slovakia. Dawn sent a long email on what they were doing to assist the country.  Contact Pat McGoff for a copy of her email.
11. Trivia. What famous singer of the 60’s had two rare BMW’s and what was the model? Answer: Elvis Presley and he had two 507’s
12.  Question and Answer Session.
    1. Dan Viveiros asked if the dealer would promote the chapter.  Pat McGoff said that he had 700 flyers and was meeting with Mike Freitas to have the BMW CCA information inserted into the car packages.  The applications would go into the packages from now on.  Pat gave Mike Freitas 250 flyers.
    2. Russ Huntoon asked how the electric car was doing.  Pat McGoff said Pearce had sold one.  Kars for Kids had the electric car there; it did 60 miles which was not a long charge time.  There may be i8s at the PGA Championship, a hybrid, not electric.
    3. Jim Goodfellow asked if it was possible for his 8 series to be side by side with an i8 and put in the chapter name perhaps for more advertising.  That was a good suggestion if it could be done.
    4. Art Ona asked if BMW car dealer buyers get a rebate also.  Pat McGoff said the rebate comes from BMW NA so it is unlikely that employees of BMW get the rebate.
    5. Jeff Warner said Dave Duffield of PeopleSoft had gotten a Porsche 918 which has a base price of $850K.

4. 4 Series BMW Gran Coupe. Pat McGoff said that BMW again is confusing us on their series designations. The 4 Series was suppose to only be two doors but the Gran Coupe that just came out is a four door.
5. M235i Impresses Consumer Reports. Pat McGoff provided a copy of an article from the BMWCCA online newsletter that mentioned that Consumer Reports was extremely pleased with the all new M235i. Art Ona just purchased this car and it is a real looker.
6. What M special edition sold out in 15 seconds this year? Answer: M5 30^th anniversary edition.

3. BMW i3 Wins Two World Car Of The Year Awards. Pat McGoff said be sure to drive it if you get a chance. It has iDrive, GPS etc but when you accelerate and want to stop, just remove your foot and it stops. There are many all green items on this car including plastic bottles for interiors, bamboo grass and olive oil for staining the interior leather. Base price is $43K, does 80 mpg, and a $7800 US rebate is also available.
4. BMW 5 Series To Launch Lighter Next Generation Car in 2016. Pat McGoff also added this Scott Blazey article to the agenda.
5. Virginia City Tour Recap – John English. There was no snow, the drive was beautiful, the roads were clear and it was a nice lunch also. Carol Villar had a slide show of the day’s drive. Many great photos.
6. BMW Welt 435i Convertible Pickup By Pat McGoff. There was a slideshow of the Welt attached to the information CD and that was shown to those present. There were several good Autobahn stories during their 13 days of driving before dropping off the car and returning home.
7. Gilson Dyno Video. John English had his car undergo the inspection and another slideshow was available on that event.
8. Trivia. What M special edition sold out in 15 seconds this year? Answer: M5 30^th anniversary edition.

   2. June 3^rd will be an iCar Ride and Drive; six of the i3 BMWs should be at Pearce. Also, a $500 check was given to the chapter by Pearce for two purchases made this past month.
3. Consumer Report Article on X5. June 2014 issue article on road tests titled Opulent Opponents, BMW X5 outpaces the Range Rover Sport to top the luxury class as number one over so many well known opponents.
4. BMW Recall. Pat included an article from BMW CCA on the Worldwide Recall for 489,000 Vehicles to Address Possible Engine-Bolt Flaw (must login to bmwcca.org to view); 156,137 were in North America.
5. Spied:  A BMW … something.  Scott Blazey article wondered if it was X7 or X5 plug-in hybrid test vehicle in camouflage spotted in Munich last month.
6. Spartanburg Plant Expansion. By 2016 BMW will invest $1 billion in the new plant. The X4 will be put into production first, followed by the X7. Dealers pay for the vehicles before they are built; build time is usually about one week. Pay as you go has been a big benefit for profitability at the plant.
7. Trivia. This is the 30 year anniversary for which vehicle? Answer: M5.
8. Questions/Comments:
   1. The picnic will be at Arrowcreek on July 13^th.
   2. August 15^th will be the Legends of the Autobahn and should be well attended.  Russ stated that the Club should think about including this as one of our tour events in order to lend our support.
   3. Air Race Weekend is Wine Tour (September 13-14).  DeArmond moved it due to scheduling at the Shenendoah Inn.  You must call and reserve a room; 15 are being held for us.

1.  New Members/Guests:  Ron introduced his friend who is not a member, but is sure he will be soon.
2. New Events for 2014.  
   1. Picnic – July 13.  Pat McGoff reserved ArrowCreek for our picnic from 2 – 5 pm.  More information will be available later; limit of 40 to 50 attendees.  Swimming pools, soccer field, indoor cooking/outdoor barbecue activities, tennis courts and more are available for our use.
3. Dyno Day Recap.  John English had his car analyzed at Gilson and showed those present the results printout.  The 135i he bought last October was tested; torque at factory is 300 and the car had Dinan exhaust and possibly Dinan suspension.  It had custom intakes.  It was interesting to see the force energy dynometer measure its performance.
4. Membership Survey.  Attached to the agenda was a printout of the 69 chapters that were in the survey.  The Sierra Chapter came in at second place after the Inland Empire Chapter in Eastern Washington (Mead/Spokane).
5. John Raffealli Obituary.  Sandy Pearce and her husband have been a great team for Pearce dealerships and carried on Bill Pearce’s legacy very well over the years.  A copy of the obituary was attached to the agenda.  John had a four year struggle with pancreatic cancer.  Pat McGoff and John Strom would be attending the celebration of life on Friday, April 11, 3 pm, at The Grove on Foothill Road.
6. Too Many Models?  An article on BMWs history and now having 100 models, not including new cars that are coming out later this year and next year, was attached to the agenda.
7. BMW CCA Pacific Region Congress Update. The meeting was very informative and refreshing for both Pat McGoff and Russ Huntoon

   Russ attended/participated in driving event items.  Insurance coverage for individual drivers during track events is not covered.  HPDE (High Performance Driving Events) evaluates all events.  Lockton Affinity Motor Parts, in 2009, endorsed the HPDE Insurance Program for those who were interested.  Everyone should check with their insurance company to see if they would be covered for track driving events; it is unlikely they would.  This issue came up five or six years ago and no one participating at that time found that their insurance company would cover any track time.

   Jeff Warner said the SSCCA program was the way to go.  Check out www.RenoSCCA.org  for more information.  It is a very high speed event.  The Fernley track, however, is in very bad shape.  Ron Nicasio can provide information on the track.  The Stead Autocross is very good, the Porsche club uses it all the time; surface is excellent and pretty smooth.

   Pat McGoff said information on past, present and future was well detailed; there had been many moves for more members as the membership bottomed out.  Now that the economy was better it is back up and helped the finances.  Membership is obtained by word of mouth (about 67 percent) and $48 dues payments are distributed as follows:  $15.30 to the local chapter, $15 to the Roundel and $17.70 to CCA.

   One of the most interesting topics was BMW CCA wanting to engage BMW dealerships.  There are 350 dealerships and many do not have a good relationship.  BMW CCA wants a liaison to link up with dealerships, which Pat McGoff will do.  This can be difficult in other areas like San Francisco who has 26 and LA many more than that.  The Congress could not believe that we were given $250 for each car they sold and that Pearce also provided many raffle gifts, at times some very expensive, for various events we held.

   Bill Wade did a presentation on Street Survival that was founded in 2002, Tire Rack was added in 2003 and there were six schools.  Last year there were over 100 schools.  The full conference information is available on the web site.

   1. Gilson Tech Session – April 5.  Gilbert finally has the Dyno from New Zealand that got stuck in Australia for two months.  Will have a demo of Dyno on your vehicle for $100.  It does two runs through to get the torque and horsepower.
   2. Picnic – Sharon Goodrich – July 13.  Sharon had looked at Bowers Mansion for a picnic in July.  After discussing with Pat McGoff, location was changed to ArrowCreek.  It can be used for three hours without cost and has swimming, barbecue and many other features.
   3. Barbera Festival – June 14.  There are four couples so far who have signed up.  It must be done on line and should be done soon as it fills fast.
3. BMW i5 Launch in 2015.  Pat McGoff provided a November 2013 article on the new car and said that it may actually be coming out this spring
4. BMW Front Wheel Drive Active Tourer.  This car is mostly 2014 Mini Coopers so far; no BMW number has been assigned to one.
5. Trivia.  8 Series BMW.  When was the first one in production and the last year in production?  Answer:  Concept was in 1986, first production year was 1989 and last production year was 1999.  But the 2014 i8 is being made now.

2. New BMW Models
   1. BMW 2 Series. Information on the new 2 series coupe was attached to the agenda. It details the car and the history of the BMW 02 range back to the 2002 models of the 1960s and 70s posted at BMW Releases Innovative New Product for Families—Just Not In the U.S.
      .
   2. BMW X1 Prototype. Scheduled to arrive in showrooms in 2015. The crossover has been spotted and information is posted at BMW X1 prototype snapped on the road
      .
3. Events for 2014.  A draft copy was handed out and some changes made to it.  It can be seen in full at the end of these meeting comments and John Strom will also put part of the list in the newsletter due out next month.
   1. Gilbert now has a Dyno which attaches to the axle.  Pat McGoff will look for an April tech session at Gilson, on one of the upcoming Saturdays.
   2. DeArmond Sharp had an information sheet on Barbera Festival on June 14.  Tickets will be available on line starting March first.  Slots fill fast, so if you wish to attend, do it right away at www.barberafestival.com .  Rooms have been reserved in the name of Sierra BMW Club at Days Inn in Sutter Creek (209.267.9177).
   3. The August 14 meeting will be Pat McGoff’s house for a barbecue and potluck; September 11 will be regular meeting at Pearce.
   4. The Monterey Historics is August 14 -17, multiple events (non-sanctioned event).
   5. Fall Wine Tour will be September 13 – 14 (date changed so rooms could be blocked out for our tour).
   6. September 14 is Gilbert’s Kars for Kids charity event in Sparks.
   7. Street Survival is set for October 4.
4. Bill Pearce Service Tools Demo Recap.  John Strom said most of those attending the January meeting saw the demonstration.  The dealers send their mechanics to school each year and spend $186,000 on it.  The tool to align front and rear cameras $3500.  BMWs now have 32 computers in them, so it should be easier to understand why it may be important to have BMW do service and repairs.  Jim Goodfellow said the i8 should be here in the spring and will cost $385K.  Pat McGoff said he would be called by Mike Freitas when new vehicles arrive.  Getting to view them, however, may be very difficult as they leave fast.  John Strom agreed, pointing out the viewing of the 959 Porsche that just “happened” to be downstairs in the service bay the night of our October 2013 meeting and we were able to view see it.
5. SCCA Regional Executive Scott Knauf.  He has a white E36 M3, is a BMW CCA member but has no club affiliation at this time.  April 12 will be a solo event at Stead and there will be some events around the Reno Air Races timeframe.  There may also be a Reno-Fernley Autocross, no date as yet.  A Test Tune is on April 6 and March 27 a Street Survival event that will have a cap of 32 students.  Many participants are member’s kids and their neighbors.  Usually they have had 14 – 15 in attendance.  Stead provides a water truck and are very helpful with the event.  The annual membership is $75.  Visit the web site for more information at www.renoscca.org .
6. Trivia.  Question on E numbers.  What is a 2005 M3?  Answer:  E46.
7. Club Rally.  Steve Polimeni will set up one for the general area.  It will not be a TSD rally, but fun event, so anyone who has never done a rally before can get a general idea of what it entails.
8. Board Positions Open.  Pat McGoff asked anyone who was interested in President, Secretary or Webmaster positions to contact him.
9. Dinner at Olive Garden.  It will be separate checks, can order off the menu, upstairs to the left area.  About 17 attending; corner of South Virginia Street and Kietzke Lane.

3. 2014 Events: The Sanfilipo’s were unable to attend due to the nasty flu going around.  They would get a route for us to put together over Mt Rose, Highway 28, to 50 and Markleeville and then back again – but someone else could run it.  Perhaps stopping for a Basque lunch in Gardnerville.  Dawn Hammond asked if cottages at Yosemite might be rented in the summer?  Need more information on all the options.  JoAnn said we could still use restaurant ideas for this year.  Need to call the location, get the true boss of the special room and make sure it is separate bills, find out the menu etc.  Dawn Hammond had talked with Olive Garden, the boss, and they said they could.  Pat had tried the Twisted Fork and De would look at Bricks.
4. Trivia: Where was a December 16, 2013, groundbreaking for a new BMW plant held that will cost 325 million dollars to build?  Answer:  Brazil.

1. New Members/Guests:  Jeff Warner introduced a guest from Frankfurt; he asked the sales rep to give her a free car since she was from Germany.  (It did not work, but worth a try.)
2. Member Q&A Session:
   1. A member asked for information and opinions on run flats; his new car has them.  Several had the run flats and there were no problems; most important point was to not exceed 55 mph or they would overheat and you could end up stranded.  (Note:  Pearce has a run flat brochure in the service lounge area.)
   2. Another member brought a replaced brake pad.  He had heard a rattling sound and could not figure it out.  Buying cheap parts with smaller end tips on them is not a good idea.  Get the best parts, not the cheapest ones, or you will pay much more in the long run.
   3. Another member asked how we might connect with other groups for our events.
   4. Jeff Warner mentioned the BMW CCA membership survey that probably showed up in your mail box today.  It was important to take the survey as the results will mean that this area is interested in BMW CCA and has specific likes and dislikes.  Be precise, but take the survey within the next few days.
   5. John Strom said the tech session would be held at our January 2014 meeting.  The information provided is very valuable for us as BMW owners.  We will see the results of the $130,000 spent on technical training each year.
3.  Christmas Party:  DeArmond Sharp was available to accept the $30 per person payment in cash if exact pay or a check.  Otherwise it could be mailed to him at his office at 71 Washington Street, Reno 89503.  De thought the money would need to be received about a week in advance.  Carol Villar would be sending out information that was more detailed.
4. Event Suggestions for 2014: 
   1. A member suggested an overnight to Bodie State Historic Park (Ghost Town) outside Bridgeport CA.  It is now paved; no camping inside the very well preserved park.  Bishop, CA could be an overnight stop.  He would work on lodging and dates.    2. DeArmond Sharp suggested the Barbera Festival at Cooper Ranch in the Shenandoah Valley (Amador County).  It was on Saturday, June 8, this year, 11 am to 4 pm, and included many wineries.  You have to buy your own ticket and hotel.  Signups start on line in March.  Tickets were $40 and must be purchased online in advance. No tickets are available at the gate. The event is expected to sell out quickly.  It will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014.  For more information go to http://barberafestival.com/
   3. DeArmond Sharp said the Amador wine tour would be late September as usual, date to be determined.
   4. Jeff Warner said yes, he did have a Duck Dynasty hat, but he felt we should work on being serious about Gilbert’s Show and Shine next year.  They give away $1000 to the largest attendance group and our chapter could use that money.  This year there were 29 Chevys for the winners and the second car group had 26 cars.  Our chapter had very few and if we went all out we could easily have 30 to 40 cars.  It is a full day of raffle and auction items, picnic relaxation, kids fun groups and many other things.  It is the second Sunday in September each year.  (In 2014 that will be September 14.)  Cost is $25 to display your car and the benefits of the day go to the Sky Tavern Kids Ski Program.

3. BMW Z5 Rumor Mill:  Pat McGoff provided an article with the agenda to those present on the rumors the BMW Z5 was to share platform with Toyota Supra (August 30th, 2013 by Horatiu Boeriu).
4. BMW German Annual Inspection Checklist:  Jim Goodfellow had the checklist that goes all the way back to 1993 for his 850 CSi.  He recommends we all read Mike Miller’s column in this month’s Roundel on the inspection manuals.  Gilbert Dayao helped him get the manual translated from German.  Jim had just returned from the 8Fest and Maart Jama was also there.  It was a great event and well attended considering the amount of BMW 8s are here – there were also attendees from other countries.
5. Street Survival Recap:  Jeff Warner said there were 16 students and the feedback was good.  The truck driver, Lisa, got to the kids right away; they were instantly amazed.  Jeff thought that there could be 15 maximum in a group, so splitting as was done worked very well.  It cuts the wait times when the kids want to get going in their cars.  Jeff thought this was the very best Street Survival session of all the chapter has done.  He based that on the school teaching and their attitudes.  Using the lodge also makes it much more comfortable for a long day.
6. BMW 4 Series Presentation:  Pat McGoff said this was to be done, the car was there yesterday and today it was sold.  The next two coming in are also sold.  So, the presentation downstairs will be changed just a little bit, which John Strom explained.  John had seen a 959 Porsche in the service area when he came in.  They were built in 1987 and 1988, 200 were made, they cost $400,000 originally and then went up to $500,000.  John will do an overview of the vehicle when we go downstairs.
7. Wine Tour Recap (September 28-29):  DeArmond Sharp gave a recap of the really great wine tour that covered Eldorado and Amador areas.  Carol Villar ran a video show of the tour.  Member Frank Himler printed plaques for the tour that were the best any had ever seen.  They had your name and also the agenda in a very professional manner by Access Pass & Design.
8. Trivia. BMW uses “codenames” to describe the car configuration. The original codes started with an “E” followed by a two digit number. Through the years the code letter has changed. The Trivia question is “What will be the next code letter and what body configuration will it represent.”  ANSWER: The letter “G” will be the next codename and it will represent the new 7 series.

1. Four new members attended the September meeting and a guest.
2. August 19 – 25 Monterey Historics/Oktoberfest. President Pat McGoff gave a short overview and Carol Villar also had a video. The attendance was massive compared to previous years. Most of the events were sold out before that week. Click here to view the video.

4. September 08 – Kars For Kids Charity Event – Gilbert Dayao – nonsanctioned event. Gilbert Dayao, Community Involvement board member, and Jeff Warner, Driving Events Coordinator, gave a recap of the event, which was very successful. The Chevy Club won with 26 cars present; there were very few from our club. Gilbert said the fund raiser made just short of $41,000 this year.
5. Pacific Region Survey. Pat McGoff commented on the survey that was done by members, and thanked those of us who had participated in the survey. The Sierra Chapter was first in the Pacific Region and 31^st out of the 76 BMW CCA chapters. Click here to view the survey results.

7. Trivia. The i8 BMW is coming out in less than two months. What is the cost? Answer: $136K. Graeme Price was the winner.

9. October 05 – Street Survival – Mt Rose Ski Resort.  Jeff Warner currently had 15 students signed up and was not sure there would be more than that.  For 2014 there will be a test on the web site, Click here to open the PDF file and follow the instructions   It is all about liability, which we know can be an issue.  Take it when you can and give feedback.  It is not required for volunteers this year.

   The Manual is available.  Remember to use regular street talk with kids; they have a short attention span.  We are like parents, they do not want to listen.  A smile comes across their face after a while except for usually one or two – either the timid or the cocky personalities.  There is an occasional mismatch of personalities with the student and the coach.  If so, a change will be made.  Sometimes the parents are also difficult since it can be a long 10 hour day.  No car systems are to be turned off; all controls will be left on.  Soap and water will be done one more time.

   Cars will go through tech – first come, first served.  Hood and trunk are included and seating position will be discussed at that time as well as rear view mirrors and other items.  Be sure to leave the window down.  We will arrive at 7 am and the kids will be arriving at 730 am.  Need help for lunch from Einstein’s and there will be bagels and coffee first thing.  Registration help is needed.  Must have a signed waiver from all people present; it will be done inside the lodge again this year.

3. The BMW trivia for the month was the Lightweight M3. If anyone knew the first year it was introduced and how much less it weighed than the M3 will win a prize. Carol Villar won a bottle of wine for getting the answer correct.
4. Pat McGoff thanked everyone for attending the inaugural Potluck at his residence. This was the largest attendance since the club began!

4. Pat McGoff went over the new i3 arriving on July 29. It is a gas and electric version starting at $40,000. Another option is the BMW i8 that was spotted in Germany recently – it starts at $150,000.

5. August Meeting/Potluck (August 8). Pat McGoff will need to know who will be attending the meeting. An email blast will be sent out to all members to provide the information Pat would like before the meeting.
6. BMW CCA Foundation will relocate to Greer SC (between Greenville and Spartanburg). The museum and office is currently a 10,000 square foot building and will eventually be 40,000 square feet of space. It is located by the Performance Center.
7. Fall Wine Tour (September 28 – 29). DeArmond Sharp said he or Ron Rachow or Pat McGoff may be contacted for more information. There are two rooms available at this time, so sign up soon.
8. BMW trivia question for the month: M3CSL, E46 questions:
   • What did CSL stand for on this model and what year? 2004 Coupe Sport Lightweight
   • How much lighter than the usual M3 was the CSL? It was 3054 pounds, 10 percent less.

Pat McGoff, President, called the meeting to order at 6:15 pm due to some technology obstacles – no computer, no internet! Thanks to John Strom (for his laptop) and Ron Nicasio (for his tethering) for saving the day!

1. Introductions included a 1968 BMW CCA New York member, transferred from NJ May 2013 and May 2013 new members, who attended the Mystery Wine Tour the previous weekend.
2. Octoberfest Update (August 19-25). Pat McGoff said rates would be going up on Saturday. Some events were already closed, some had wait lists, and they were up to 900 attendees. This should be an exceptional event.
3. Mystery Wine Tour Recap (June 8 – 9) was given by John Strom while we watched a slideshow posted on the web site (click here to view) created by Carol Villar, our webmaster. The post also shows the entire trip plan in case you missed it or wanted to know exactly where they went on their 460 mile drive.
4. John Strom also noted there was a combined event with Street Survival and the Porsche Club that is open to all people over 50 on June 18^th. Ragnar Kuehnert, District Coordinator for the AARP Defensive Driving course, which is designed for seniors to help them strategize through the effects of aging such as reduced vision and hearing, slower reaction time, affect of medications on driving etc will conduct the session. Pre-registration is required, 1 to 530 pm at the National Automobile Museum, 10 South Lake Street, Reno. Cost is $12 for AARP Members and $14 for Non-Members, 775.786.3509.
5. Pat McGoff gave an overview of the X5 which will be made in Spartanburg SC, and is the third generation since 1995. It has many new features that other manufacturers have already adopted (like the LED around the headlights) and has iDrive and Touch Drive. The first part of the BMW YouTube video, The all-new BMWmX5. A closer look., was shown. The Alpina B6 BiTurbo is back on the agenda as well. For additional information on the Alpina site click here.
6. BMW trivia question for the month: Which was the most powerful rated auto brand in the world and what is it worth? BMW and it is worth 26.3 billion according to Forbes World’s Most Powerful Brands List and ranks ninth.
7. Dinner tonight is at the Bronx Pizzeria (mall area where the Chevron/Terribles just closed) at 7689 S Virginia St Ste A Reno, NV 89511 . There is a set price of $16-17 which includes gratuity and will be separate billing, three pizza types, buffet and with happy hour drink price (separate). Nineteen attending.

1. here were no new members at the start of the meeting, so introductions were bypassed.
2. Oktoberfest Update (August 19-25). Pat McGoff said there were 750 enrolled. Both the Hyatt and Hilton hotels were were full already. Most of the car clinics and control driving were also full except Saturday. Two items that Sierra Chapter members would want to consider are the Salinas Valley Agricultural Tour on Friday and the Hurst Castle Tour on Saturday. The list showed 12 from our chapter attending.
3. Virginia City Drive – April 20^th. De Sharp said there were ten Bimmers and Russ Huntoon’s Beemer motorcycle. New Sierra Chapter members Dan Wink and his wife attended. Lunch was great. Carol Villar showed video presentation on the website for us on the ride.
4. Mystery Wine Tour Update – Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and 9. John Strom said there were currently ten cars. The mystery was a wine valley of five wineries you have never visited, they are about five to eight years old now, it is about 250 miles and the roads are great. The overnight stay will be in a nearby city. See the web site for details and let John Strom know if you want to attend since there are still two spots remaining.
5. Mike Dietel gave information on the May 11, non-sanctioned club event by Pro Control at the Fernley Track. Cost will be $225 per person. There are still openings. Three groups will be running; the price includes lunch. Jeff Warner’s E30 M3 monster car may also be ready by then.
6. BMW Membership Survey. Pat McGoff reminded us that one item discussed at the San Francisco February Regional Conference were all chapters outlined with good and bad points. A membership survey has been created and it is being sent to all members. Half the questions are about National and half are about the Chapter. It takes about ten minutes to complete the survey and hope you will all give your opinions.
7. Member news included Norma coming to the meeting and letting us know that John was in Reston VA and that they would be in Reno until after school was out, the house had been put up for sale, the car had been sold. Brandon Villar was 16 today and Carol was looking for a used car for him. Gilbert said he had an Audi A4. Dawn had a picture on the bulletin board – who did we think it was? Cheryl and Britt Johnson were new members and were introduced.
8. BMW trivia for the month was BMW changing the numbering system. It would be Series 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. So what did that mean? Even numbers were two door; odd numbers were four doors.
9. Dinner tonight is at LaVecchia Italian Bistro. It will be in the main dining room due to a slight glitch, but will not be a problem; headcount of 15 for dinner. Other options for dinners after the meeting were again discussed; no clear winners as yet. A few more mentioned would be checked out to make sure it would be single checks for all attending.

1. here were no new members at the April meeting.
2. The Hyatt Hotel in Monterey is sold out for the Oktoberfest. The Hilton is the overflow hotel and it is the same rate as the Hyatt. The Wednesday and Thursday track days are sold out. There are a few left on Friday and Saturday. If you intend to go you need to sign up very soon.
3. The Virginia City Drive is coming up April 20^th. So far there are 10 cars going which is a good turn-out but more can attend so sign up soon.
4. BMW has a recall on the 3 series coupes and sedans for a battery cable problem. The cable could cause a fire so if you own a 3 series you should check with your BMW dealer to see if your car is on the list. Carol Villar also showed everyone a link that shows all the current recalls for BMW’s.
5. BMW has several new models coming out in the next several months included the new 4 series, a new X5, a diesel 3 series xDrive and many others. Carol Villar showed a link to the BMW site that listed all the upcoming new models.
6. Bob Merrill mentioned that the non- BMW event called the Eids of May Road Rally is coming up on May 4^thA flyer was attached to the Agenda for anyone interested.
7. BMW will introduce 4 more Apps as an option for the new 2014 models. They include Rhapsody, TuneIn, Audible for book reading and Glympse. A flyer is in the Agenda for more details.
8. The BMW 2013 Membership Drive is now underway. For every member signed up, the sponsoring member and the new member are entered into a drawing to win a chance to go to the BMW Performance Center plus two nights of lodging.
9. Carol Villar has recently sent out emails to all members with user names and passwords. She demonstrated how to sign into the website and also showed how to make comments and car listings on the site. She would like to get pictures of member BMW’s to put on the site as well.
10. The BMW trivia for the month was the new 328 d engine. The engine will get an incredible 48 mpg highway and somewhere in the 30 mpg range for city driving. This will compete against the Prius and it’s a BMW!! It will do 0-60 in 7.2 seconds.
11. Jeff Warner mentioned that there is a Pro Control event at the Fernley Track on May 11^th. The cost will be $225 per person. This is a non-BMW event.
12. Jeff Warner mentioned another non-BMW event which will be a Show-n-Shine on Saturday from 10AM to 3PM at Bonaventure of Sparks Senior Living Community. Registration is $15.
13. The dinner tonight is at Los Compadres just down the road.

1. Introductions were done since another new member was present.  He had been a member of the Tucson Chapter and was initially transferred to the Sacramento Chapter.
2. Oktoberfest (August 19-25) Update by Carol Villar.  A short ad clip was shown.  As of March 1 reservations have been accepted via www.bmwcca.ofest.org.  The web site shows activities for the week and package prices.  You must sign up first, then BMW CCA books the Hyatt room for you at $139 per night (could be $379 other nights).
3. Event Updates.  Web Site will have much more information on individual events.  Please check events you may want to attend.  All events mentioned at this meeting were BMW CCA sanctioned events.
   1. 2013 Left Coast 8Fest – Northern California towns of Benbow and Garberville from October 4-7.  Jim Goodfellow said there were already two cars being shipped over from Germany for this year’s show.  Eight years ago at the West Coast show registration was for 89 beautiful 8 series cars.
   2. Virginia City Tour – April 20 date will not interfere with any other major activities – John English outlined a general route which included Mt Rose to 28, then 50, Six Mile Canyon and eat at the Palace Restaurant which has excellent food.
   3. Mystery Wine Tour is June 8 – 9.  Pat McGoff said it would be a blind drive, John Strom said it was not yet full, so contact either John Strom or Pat McGoff.
   4. Sierra Buttes Tour on July 27.  Andy and Sharon Goodrich said a poker run would be included, which will be a first time for everyone.  It will be basically 431 to Kings Beach, 267, Sierraville, Highway 89, and then 49 which is a very winding road.  On to Gold Lake, Graeagle, Portola and home.
   5. Fall Wine Tour is September 28-29.  It fills up fast so contact DeArmond Sharp, Ron Rachow or Pat McGoff.
4. Website Improvements.  Pat McGoff mentioned there were fourteen chapters currently in the Pacific Region and shortcomings of each chapter were pointed out the regional meeting.  BMW CCA Sierra Chapter was one of the best with two items needing correction.  One was the Bylaws, which have been added.  The other was a >Photo Gallery.  We had a video, so Carol Villar did a gallery and gave a demonstration of the changes she had made on the web site.  Carol had also added a link to a forum but there was no chatter yet.  I also showed the Logos page. She put in pictures from the earliest event since she joined the Chapter and became webmaster to now.  Carol would like pictures of member cars, which can be added or contact Carol for adding them.
5. BMW 4 Series Coupe Video.  Carol showed a short video of the new car.  There are 66 BMW models now and they are going to have around 116 models worldwide by 2020.
6. BMW 4 Series Concept Convertible.  Another informative item; we learned a little more.
7. Sierra BMW CCA Banners.  Pat McGoff contacted Russ Huntoon and told him Staples had outdoor vinyl banners with grommets at half price. Russ said he would pay for them himself instead of the club. Each were $40 and used two different photos from the web site.  Pat and Carol rolled them out for us to see up close. Note: These are 2 individual 8′ x 2.5′ Banners
   
8. New BMW CCA Roundel App On The iPad at the App Store.  Pat McGoff gave a short demo on the new app which required your BMW CCA email address and password.  The app has all the magazines and downloads.  You can also scroll to read if you like.
9. BMW Trivia.  Picture provided with the agenda.  It was a 328, 1937, cost:  priceless.
   
10. Member Comments.
    1. Office Max has a BMW discount for supplies – free; more distributed to attendees. Check out more discounts at BMWCCA.org membership benefits page. You must login to see the “Discount Link.”
    2. Giles Marion will be 70 years old tomorrow, the Ides of March.
    3. Jim Goodfellow said the Alpina web page has some pictures and little spiel on it, may want to check it out.  Carol Villar said she had tried it but it did not send you an email on the club web site and goes blank.  She will send out an email when the kinks are solved.  There may be a form to fill out, she will check further.

Pat McGoff, President, called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm.

1. Head count was done for Ling & Louie’s to be called in by Cheri for dinner after the meeting. Dinner group of 21. Jeff Warner gave all the women beautiful pink roses for our Valentine’s Day meeting. John English endured us singing happy birthday to him
2. New member was welcomed and we introduced ourselves to him.
3. Pacific Regional Meeting – February 1-3 at SFO Crown Plaza (attended by Pat McGoff, John English, John Strom, and Sharon Goodrich.) Sharon Goodrich said it was a great gathering, very informative. BMW CCA was looking for diversity of vehicles, people and ages. Some hand outs were given that Puget Sound made, including a calendar (they have over 2400 members). All fourteen chapters attended except for Las Vegas. Sharon made one oops saying SUV and was immediately corrected that it was SAV. Someone else present said the other common error is not having a space in BMW CCA.
   Pat McGoff said that BMW CCA membership was declining a little, so they wanted to increase it. All ideas were welcome. There was a lot of talk about the Internet and the actions that could help promote chapters if done correctly.
   John English discussed the Oktoberfest as an example of problems with the Internet. They were given a list that highlighted the worst web sites. The Sierra Chapter was not on the list. Then they looked at the dealer web sites and information on the chapters. It did not look like any of the chapters were included on any of the dealer websites. Discounts were not included on the dealer sites either. All fourteen chapters were scored. Sierra Chapter had two that needed to be corrected: the ByLaws (not a problem) and gallery of photos. The photos depended on available site space. The Sin City Chapter got all “nos” and the rumor was Chris Willett/others had closed it because of convertibles not being permitted on the track. Las Vegas had 9 members. We were at 119 on February 1st.
   Jeff Warner asked if Las Vegas chapter could then be transferred to Reno, as we were from them when this chapter was formed. Russ Huntoon said that we had the highest percent of chapter members attending. John Strom said our membership retention was the same as last year; stable membership was good, but growth would be better. Pat McGoff mentioned he was impressed with the number attending our monthly meetings; however, it looked like the majority attending were officers, board members and committee chairs.
   Oktoberfest costs were not organized at the meeting, Pat McGoff said. The information is now available and will be sent to all our members. The West coast was not as successful with Oktoberfest as the East Coast, so this may be the last one if attendance is not greatly improved. Russ Huntoon asked if they had banners for our Chapter yet – which would make our group be more visible.
   The BMW CCA Foundation and Capital Campaign are trying to break all records in raising money for Street Survival. They would like to double the numbers from 2500 students at 85+ locations to 5000 at 200 locations. They need a new facility that will cost $5.5 million and include a museum (not for cars) and space for expanding over the years. It would be perfect between the performance track and the Spartanburg facility and the land is for sale now.
   
4. Events List Comments.
   1. Jeff Warner said Street Survival at Fallon was on hold since they were not responding. John Strom said Porsche was doing a Street Survival March 16 with SCCA. Dave and Carol DeBorde at d_deborde@charter.net have SCCA pamphlets.
   2. Jeff Warner said the web site was originally very stoic and then there were two others that had it before Carol took it over. It is a great improvement and very user friendly for the event listings, which we really needed to encourage more participation.
   3. John Strom said the June 8 Mystery Wine Tour was still on. JoAnn McGoff said she tried to access the Porsche one as she thought it would be the same for us. John said he figured someone would try that, so he removed it. Therefore, it is still a mystery.
   4. DeArmond Sharp said that fourteen rooms were blocked for the Fall Wine Tour at the Shenandoah Inn at Plymouth, CA. There is a wedding party that weekend, so the sooner we sign up, the better for us. Last year there were 15 rooms.
   5. August 8 meeting will be at Pat McGoff’s house, not Pearce, and will be a potluck.
5. Websites.  Pat McGoff said we needed to expand events and the Roundel and Pearce information on the web site.  Information that anyone provided would be welcomed.
6. Jeff Warner, Mike Dietel and Gilbert Dayao went out to Reno-Fernley to check the track and lands around it. There were two parcels, one was now a dirt track. There was a ten year lease on the road course by a very savvy new guy. We should be able to use it for ten years, but there will not be a lot of improvements. He will do a new configuration, possibly an H configuration and 2.5 mile track. The main problem is the gravel not being cleared from the track.
7. Pat McGoff asked about restaurant options. Twisted Fork (old Bullie’s spot) at 1191 Steamboat Parkway has private room. Johnny Carino’s Italian Grill at The Summit will also do separate checks. Brassiere St James Brewery/Restaurant, at 901 South Center Street opened four months ago, they also do separate checks.

General Meeting was stopped at 6:55 pm and a stampede for the door was done.  It was Valentine’s Day, and everyone at Bill Pearce was ready to head out as soon as we left too.

4. A few of the changed items included moving it from Friday to Sunday. Price lowered and more spectators. No parking at Montreaux; may use a shuttle from Galena. Possibly only three judges and six or seven classifications. Jeff Warner and Gilbert Dayao said it would be best to shoot for 100 cars and hope for 60 to attend. Practice hole by the driving range would be used. Jeff Warner suggested finding vendors to provide food and beverages with no deduction from money raised. Boys and Girls Clubs were going to assist.
5. John Strom had event folders with all the forms needed. One event that was being planned was a June 8, Saturday, Mystery Wine Tour. Meet at 8 am and would be told where the group would be going. Roads are fantastic, about 180 miles, new wineries that have won awards, a picnic and overnight stay. Probably only 12 cars will be going. Porsche club did it last year and no one guess the place. Gilbert Dayao would be doing a couple of tech sessions and the regular wine trip in September also. Kars for Kids would be the second Sunday in September, and also the Virginia City Drive.
6. Pat McGoff talked with Mike Freitas, Sales Manager, and there will be a $250 stipend for bought leased and used cars. Last year we had $1000 in stipends which was used to support the Holiday Party.
7. Pat McGoff also mentioned the Roundel advertised for National that there were rewards from $500 to $1500 on purchase or lease of a vehicle. USAA also offered rewards. If there were other organizations that offered rewards for car purchases, please let us know.
8. Pacific Regional Conference will be at the SFO Crown Plaza February 1 through 3 and the four slots per chapter will be attended by Pat McGoff, John English, John Strom, and Sharon Goodrich.
9. The Monterey Oktoberfest will be after the Concours Historics on August 19 and Hyatt rooms are now open for reservations if you plan to attend.
10. Trivia each month will be done. Pat McGoff said that BMW sold more cars in November 2012 than any other month in their history. They also beat out Mercedes Benz to total cars sold last year by 7000. Check out the article BMW says November best month ever.
11. Jim Goodfellow would like to hear ideas to revitalize our cars. He found that changing a BMW catalytic converter to a non-California converter upped mileage by 6 mph.
12. Pat McGoff talked with Alberto at LaVecchia. We will have the private room every other month (January, March, May etc) and other locations between those times. Ling & Louies in February and then others. August will be a picnic at Pat McGoff’s house – potluck and fine wines. Dinner count looked like about 14.

2. Street Survival, October 6.  Art Ona said there had been 22 students.  It was an excellent event.  If more students are obtained next year, will need more helpers.  Our goal is to save lives.
3. The Nominating Committee comprised of Jeff Warner, Jeff Whitesides and DeArmond Sharp met and nominates the following persons to serve as officers for the Sierra Chapter BMW CCA for the next two years:

John Strom had returned from his trip to Italy for the summer with Alice.  They had a great time and he had brought presentations of the Ferrari Museum, Lamborghini Museum and the Italian National Auto Museum.  The latter had vehicles with history going back further than cars built in other countries.  After those great presentations, John gave a short one of their trip also.  All of the photos were fantastic.
6. LaVecchia will be dinner spot for October and November.

1. Introductions included a member, who was an early member, and has five BMWs.  He would like both email addresses added to the club notifications.
2. Street Survival, October 6th.  Mike Dietel said 25 had signed up and a few more possibly would be signing up, which would probably be a total of 20.  Mt Rose may or may not be available with the work they are still doing.  There will be a meeting on Thursday, October 4, at 6 pm for all the volunteers.  Breakfast snacks and lunch will be provided.  Family and friends can sign up to assist.  Helpers and students are needed – if we can get 30 students, will need more helpers, but that would be a good group.
3. Eldorado Wine Tour September 29 and 30.  DeArmond just finished the route setup and instructions.  If you want to buy a sandwich, call in the day ahead to pick up – or other things.  Information is on the web site for the entire tour and what will be needed and done.
4. LaVecchia will be dinner spot for September, October and November.  Group is so small tonight (our lowest ever) that we will not need to call in attendees.
5. A Membership Director is needed.  If you would volunteer for the position, please let him or Pat McGoff know.  Pat said he tries to get new members.  Pearce lets people know about the meeting.  We do not try to secure members by door to door.  He will often leave cards on windshields and just try to steer possible members in the right direction.  Need to join national in order to be a member of this chapter.
6. Nomination Committee slate of officers will be provided at the October meeting, voting will be at the November meeting.  Let DeArmond, Jeff Warner and Jeff Whitesides know if you would like to be added to the slate.

Introductions/Updates:  Art Ona had a computer down so no access for a while.  Don Alexander, guest speaker, Great Western Race Series.  Art introduced Geoffrey Cutler from Sporthaus who was a fan of BMW.  Tae was a visitor and friend of Dawn Hammond.  Dawn also suggested a Spanish Springs Korean sushi restaurant off Los Altos.  Distance was a factor for that site.
2. John English – Events.
   • July 21 day trip – Black Chasm Cavern, Volcano CA:  The web site information was posted and is correct.  Linda Sanfilipino said the group should be there by noon, then it would be Jackson for a great meal.

   • Street Survival, Mt Rose, October 6:  Jeff Warner said they were doing repaving and it should be completed by October 6.  Event would be at Slide Mountain on east parking lot if had to move it.  “Motorsport Ridge” is promoting the event on their web site; there are seven currently signed up; want 30.  It is $75.  Mario asked if there was a flyer and Jeff will provide one.  Need at least 15 coaches.
3. Rich Hill, Director, Great Western Race Series, and Don Alexander, were guest speakers and discussed two upcoming events.  These are non-sanctioned BMW events. Both will be held at Reno-Fernley Raceway.  The first one is August 4-5, the second one September 1-2.  Information may be obtained from www.GWRaceSeries.com or call Rich or Don at 846-8747.  There are three groups:  The Reno Time Trials and Street Legals (four twenty minute sessions Saturday and Sunday, $175/day or $300 weekend), and the Competition Class (3.5 hour runs, 1.5 hour pull into pit and hydrate and change drivers probably, $400 for weekend and $100 for additional driver).  If you are in need of personal safety equipment such as current, legal helmet or socks, visit Davis Motorsports of Reno at www.shop.davismotorsportsofreno.com/ or 7320 Estates Road, Reno NV 89506.  They are sponsoring the event and have worked over their supers for some very good pricing for participants.  The competition class requires cage, harness and full safety gear.  Sign ups need to be by July 20, so will distribute via a web and email announcement to members.  If you are interested, please sign up as soon as you can.
4. Dawn Hammond discussed volunteer work she has been doing in Prague, Czech Republic countries.  Nurseries provided seeds last year and they were mailed.  Dawn uses her Social Security money to pay for the trips.  She is leaving September 2^nd for Prague and then Slovakia.  She may be moving to another state next year.  The CESP-I is a non-profit group.  If you want to donate, contact her at 775.626.8998 or dawnchammond@gmail.com.

• June 23 – Railroad Museum in Sacramento and the repair shop, plus lunch at a great place about a block away.  Brandi at Blackhawk in Danville is not returning calls, but hope to have it frmed up fairly soon.
• July 21 – day trip on 88 to Shake Ridge Road to Volcano.  The last stop at the Volcano Union Inn was not friendly, but there is a cute park and we could do P&J and BYO in that area.  After that we could proceed to spectacular Black Chasm Cavern and Chaw’se Indian Grinding Rock (Miwok Indians).  Or we could proceed to Jackson if not BYO at the park. Details almost finalized see Events>Black Chasm Cavern.
• Cabot Cove on May 18^th is on, eight have signed up, it closes tonight.  It is pay as you go and the insurance certificate has been obtained.
• A member suggested Bodega Bay for the annual Crab Cioppino Feed in March.
• Jeff Warner said the driving event on April 22^nd was very good. It was about a four mile configuration.  Car control and lapping on the track were provided.  It was lead follow format for new people.  Car clinic was excellent.  There were 49 cars, almost double from other times.  Mike Dietel was visiting Nürburgring (he was not driving).

1. Event Changes:

• April 14 – Virginia City drive is rescheduled by John English due to poor weather coming on Saturday.  New date will be Saturday, April 21.
• April 22 – Track School at Reno-Fernley.  There are 15 openings; 25 have signed up.  Want 40 total.  SCCA will be at the track Saturday and some may participate.
• June 23 – Biersch/Embarcadero/Blackhawk Tour cancelled at this time.  Winery is closing April 28.
• July 21 – Sonoma WWII BMW Collection and Old Sacramento Railroad Museum.  Cancelled at this time; Sonoma collector is MIA.

2.  Event revision options discussed.

• Consensus for having the Blackhawk Museum trip to Danville.  Russ Huntoon will get back to us on continuing in the Bay Area.  There was another winery in the SF Pier area or perhaps one in East Bay that could be added to the trip.
• Sacramento Railroad Museum.  Other wineries could be visited in Sonoma, which is quieter than the Napa area.  Dawn Hammond will check into a separate winery.  All agreed the Sacramento Railroad Museum was an excellent venue as well.  Also, if the Tourism Bureau is mentioned in Sonoma you will get discounts.

3.  John English discussed small window stickers for our cars.  Total price through Silver State Industries at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center would be $167.45 for 250, excluding taxes.  Majority agreement on the purchase by those present.

4.  Jim Goodfellow renewed the wheels on his Alpina.  He noticed the hub caps were all lined up the same.  Jim offered to contact the tech him and ask if he would discuss detailing at the May 10 meeting.

5.  National BMW CCA Meeting in Dallas.  Art attended the conference, as did Melissa Nicholas, Pat McGoff and John English.  It was three intensely planned days, about 300 people.  There were many items discussed at length.  Three items of interest for us right now are the differences between three and four point seatbelts.  Three point are safe; four point are not nearly as safe.  There is a $25,000 limit by IRS to adhere with nonprofit rules.  If nonmembers are at events, insurance could be lost.

6.  John English discussed logo shirts and hats and if there was interest in them.  It takes $1000 for web site to start up.  Jeff Whitesides said our web site could provide a link and individuals could order themselves.  It would provide us with some pay back.  There was not the interest at this time in making a large investment, but the web site link would possibly work well.  The link is from the Golden Gate Chapter website:  www.cafepress.com/ggcbmwcca#link-productCategory-117 .

7.  Dinner at Los Compadres (it is set up for 24).  May and June will be at LeVecchia’s new location off Skyline.

2. Alice Strom.  Reminder:  Sign up is still open. There were currently five cars and ten people; maximum of ten cars.  Contact her if you are interested.  May 18 (noon Friday) – 20 – Coastal Cruise to Cabot Cove – John and Alice Strom – BMW Sanctioned Event (must be member to participate). 3. Don Sokola, a new member,  gave a lengthy presentation on The United States of Autism movie, Tommy Foundation project. Don, Executive Producer of the movie, described it as basically 40 days on pizzas for 11,000 miles.  The movie trailer was released in August 2010.  Three weeks ago (February 2012), the 93 minute documentary with three songs was “in the can” and the project was progressing.  It was submitted to the Film Festival on March 5, 2012.  If it is successful it will be in movie theaters everywhere. They are utilizing Kickstarter.com to raise funds, please visit The United States of Autism page on Kickstarter. Meanwhile, any BMW members who would like to donate, please do so. The sooner they reach their goal the better chance their project has of succeeding on a condition that is affecting so many families throughout the United States.
4. Art Ona introduced Mike Freitas, Service Manager, who gave us a very thorough review of the new 2012 328i F30 sedan.  It has very impressive specs and is a good rival for the Audi A4 sedan and C250 Mercedes Sedan.  Bill Pearce received 27 of them and had three left. 1. Art Ona introduced Mike Freitas, Service Manager, who said the $250 deal was still going.  In the past six months there were three new/used BMWs and one other vehicle sold by reference/to members, which was $1000 donated to the chapter.  Pearce would do the March meeting on the new 3 series.
2. New members were introduced.  Other introductions were made of those present.
3. Jeff Warner said there would be another Track Driving Event at Reno-Fernley Race track on Sunday, April 22, for driving school and car control clinic.  It is a non-BMW sanctioned event. Invite the spouses to come and drive.  He showed a YouTube video of a Daytona prototype that got a lot of laughs (“Joao Barbosa takes wife for the 1^st time in a ride around Daytona International Speedway at 185mph in a 2 seater Grand Am Daytona Prototype.” “Wife” in the front seat deserved an award).
4. Jeff Warner said Satch Carlson needs an article on the British guy on Kingbury Grade.  Want to do ten cars test of variances between standard vehicle and revisions made and tested.  Evolve Tuning www.evolvetuning.us is one of the software companies being used for a Roundel article. They are a British company and Jeff’s contact for them is Paul Howells, a Brit who has a place on Kingsbury Grade.  The other software outfits involved are:  Dinan, ESS, Burger Tuning, Cobb and Vishnu.  Testing will be done by Street to Sand at 335 Kietzke Lane.  Work would be done in April.  Any volunteers?  (6 Members and their cars helping out thus far.)

1. Art Ona thanked Cheri and Russ Huntoon for the fantastic job setting up the Christmas dinner.  Did anyone remember who the Reno Rennsport oil change winner was?  Brian Lowder was also present at the meeting.
2. There will be a 2012 Planning Meeting on Saturday, January 14, 10 am at Pearce.  Everyone is invited to attend and provide suggestions and ideas for events.  Dawn Hammond said she could not attend, however, would like to put on the “list” the Old Sacramento Railroad and Sonoma.  Art Ona will not be able to attend; Jeff Whitesides will moderate the planning session.
3. New members:  Bob M, from New Hampshire, has lived in many states and two countries.  Ron L and Rita L are new members also.  Bob S said he was still a member but BMW CCA had moved him to the Sacramento chapter for some reason – he would try to get it fixed soon.
4. John Strom put out some recently published information.  BMW is 13 percent ahead of Mercedes for the first time in years; Lexus is way down now.  BMW will be investing $900 million into the Spartenburg NC plant.  It will be production of about 350,000 cars a year and 300 new jobs.  Total investment in the plant will then be around $6 billion.  The X3, 5 and 6 are currently built at that plant; others will then be added.
5. John Strom passed around a May 18-20 flyer for a coastal cruise to Cabot Cove, home to Jessica Fletcher of “Murder, She Wrote.”  A great road trip up the Northern California coast.  It will be a three-day, two night “drive and dine” that begins at noon on Friday.  Contact John Strom if interested.
6. Jeff Warner said there would be another Track Driving Event at Reno-Fernley Race track on Sunday, April 22.  It is a non-BMW sanctioned event.  Cost will be $195. The flyer will be emailed to Sierra Chapter members. Participants will again be driving Audi, BMW, Mercedes, MINI, Mustang, Porsche and Volvo cars/SUVs.  Invite the spouses to come and drive – or there is excellent shopping area nearby.
7. Dave and Chris from Hogg Skinz gave an excellent presentation on hydrographics and custom coatings work they do.  Currently they are located on North Edison (35 Edison Lane) in one of the industrial buildings being bought/vacated for the flood project.  However, information is available on their web site www.hoggskinz.com along with a great gallery of items they can and have done.
   Their work includes water immersion, water transfer printing or camo dipping up to a 6 by 12 foot part.  That includes bumpers, grills, spoilers, mirrors, etc.  They use House of Colors on most of the work.  It goes over the existing finish after rebasing.  The original paint is gone forever.  They can do brush aluminum, but not chrome.  Items are heated up to 240 degrees.  The pricing is very reasonable.  The automotive clear coat is usually six coats.  They have about 2,000 graphics out already.  Hours are usually 9 am to 6 pm but sometimes due to work maybe working until 10 pm.

1. Mike Dietel gave an overview of the Fernley Car Control Clinic on Sunday, October 9.  There were 36 cars and the weather was ideal.  Participants were driving Mercedes, Audi, Mini, Subaru, Porsche, Corvette and BMWs.  Will try to find “orphan days” at the track, then there would be maybe two or three next year.
2. A Board meeting for 2012 Events will be held at 5 pm before the November meeting.
3. Christmas Dinner – Thursday, December 8, 6 pm.  Need the check no later than the November meeting for $36 per person.  Checks should be made out to Sierra BMW.
4. Sierra Foothill/Lincoln County Wine Trip – September 16 and 17.   DeArmond Sharp said it was a great time and went as planned.  Murphy’s visit was a one time stop.  Carol Villar had a PowerPoint presentation of the tour.  There were 13 cars and 25 people.
5. Jeff Warner – Driving Events.
   a.  Boreal was not cooperative for a Street Survival Driving School and Sacramento would be a good group to do it together.  Mr Rose is a perfect venue, just need more participants.  Jeff Warner wanted to have Pearce move involved and felt that the $75 fee being reduced or removed would get more involved.  Other schools were free, this one was not – but the results from the full day by the students showed on their faces that they learned a lot.  To make it worthwhile 30 students are needed as well as 15 instructors.  Mt Rose has been very cooperative for the program.  Would like it held during the first three weeks of September; other activities and school are less likely to be an issue at that time.  Dody Gustafson suggested contacting Homeowner Associations and check into attending meetings and/or putting articles in newsletters if they have them.  Jeff would work on that next spring.
   b.  Monterey events were visited by Jeff Warner with Gary Balleisen and Paul Beacham.  Really great cars.
   c.  Car Control at Fernley was a really good event.  Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Mustang and two Corvettes from their clubs were in attendance.  It was put on by Pro Control and Mike Dietel.  The $175 price is really good.  He would work on increasing attendance for next time.
6. Dinner would be at Los Compadres:  20 would attend.

1.  Street Survival – Jeff Warner discussed the upcoming event to be held on Saturday, September 10^th, at Mt Rose.  Need more volunteers.  There will be a break at noon.  (Most were present at the 5 pm meeting.)  This is not a BMWCCA sanctioned event because CCA instructors will not be in the cars.

2.  Fernley Car Control Clinic – Jeff Warner discussed the upcoming clinic.  It would be brake, steer, slalom and skid pad.  It was October 9^th, Sunday, report at 730 am, meeting began at 8 am and track time began at 9 am.  It is a joint item with Audi, Mustang, Porsche, Mercedes and BMW.  Pro Control Driving Academy will be putting on the event; cost is $175 per person. This is not a BMWCCA sanctioned event because CCA instructors will not be in the cars.

3.  Sierra Foothill/Lincoln County Wine Trip – September 16^th and 17^th.   DeArmond Sharp said it was set to go.

4.  Christmas Dinner – Thursday, December 8, 6 pm.  Russ Huntoon provided a flyer:  Roundabout Catering, 6148 Mae Anne, Reno, $36 per person.  Orders and money would need to be turned in by the November 10 meeting.  We can not bring our own wine.  Deposit of $500 was approved; estimate 50 attendees.

5.  JK from Dinan Engineering was guest speaker.  Steve Dinan started the business in 1979 and redid a 320i at the shop in Mountain view.  There was a relocation to Morgan Hill in the early 90s and currently there are 35 employees.  Dinan is used by 130 dealers in the US.  Steve gets a new vehicle and then decides stages one through four and what they will entail (engine, chassis, suspension, drive line tuning, etc).  The motto is performance without sacrifice.  JK had a vehicle and gave a few people a quick trip through the Pearce area after the meeting.

6.  Dinner is at Los Compadres, which has opened at Foothill area, 21 attending.

Art Ona, President, called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM.

1.  Jeff Leathers, Service Manager, was first speaker of the night, along with Avery Roberson, Service Technician Manager.  Jeff has been with Pearce for 16 years.  The information provided on BMWs Condition Based Maintenance Program was very detailed and good for all members to know.

Where are the Dip Sticks?  Government action began the change.  The oil level sensor is precise, the temperature, viscosity and level are taken right before the car starts.  Five minutes later it does a dynamic oil test.  Without the dip stick, it helps keep the oil from breaking down.  Question:  so does the sensor fail?  Jeff said the first sensor this year was replaced last month; the previous one was in December 2010.

2.  Introductions.  Graeme Price was a new member.  Carol and Walt Nelson from Dayton are Mini members.  Steve Winters has an M6.

3.  Blackhawk Museum was a great trip.  Russ Huntoon said the information exchanged was also very good for the docents.

4.  Art asked for Christmas ideas.  Cheri Huntoon mentioned Collin Smith’s Roundabout Catering off Robb and Mae Anne in Northwest Reno.  Check www.RoundaboutCatering.com for more information.  The December date is open and it could be just our group in the room as it is small but very comfortable.  Price would be $25 – 35 per person.  Cheri would check and give more feedback at the September meeting on whether our own wine could be brought or if it was restricted.  Vote was unanimous.

5.  Dinner will be at La Vechhia this month and Los Compadres in September which has opened at Foothill area.

6.  Oktoberfest.  Russ Huntoon would like a banner and goody bag to take with him.

7.  Street Survival.  Jeff Warner was not available, however, July meeting notes were read: Tire Rack Street Survival, Saturday, September 10, Mt Rose.  This time there will be use of indoor bathroom and classroom.  Fire truck will be there, students will use their own cars.  Need volunteers as coaches to sit in the cars with the kids.  It will be straight ahead braking.  Starting age is 15 (with permit) to 22 years old.  Need 30 participants.  Would like to have 30+ workers, coaches, etc.  Do not have to be club members to work this day with the students.  This is not a BMW CCA sanctioned event because CCA instructors will not be in the cars.

8.  Track Day – Reno-Fernley, October 9, Sunday.  Mike Dietel had 12 sign ups so far, need 15-20.  Should have ten from our group, cost is $175.  This is not a BMW CCA sanctioned event because CCA instructors will not be in the cars.

9.  Sierra Foothill/Lincoln County Wine Trip – September 16 and 17.   DeArmond Sharp has done a pre-drive and made a few changes.  It would be 89 to 4, Murphy’s, Ironstone Lunch at the Deli, then on to Plymouth and the Shenandoah Inn (209.245.4491).  They probably did not have any more rooms available due to another scheduled event; last he checked there were only two remaining.  Sunday am will be breakfast at the Dead Fly Diner then to Helwig Winery ( www.helwigwinery.com/ ) for a cave tour and wine tasting.  After that you are on your own.  Will be meeting at the South end of Sierra Summit parking lot in back of the Tilly’s store where restrooms are available.

10. Gilbert Dayao provided a flyer for a Children’s Cabinet fundraiser – September 19, 2011.  Montreux Golf and Country Club ( www.montreuxgolf.com ), starts at noon, participation fee is $250 which includes golf, dinner, silent auction, and donation to Children’s Cabinet.

11. Avery Roberson, Master Mechanic, was introduced by Jim Goodfellow, who has been a friend for many years.  General comments were to replace the air filter every year as it gets dusty.  Oil sensors are reliable; short trips, however, get moisture on the sensor.  Many items are now Federally mandated:  tires, headlights, fuel filters, air filters, and more.  Data is collected, but it is still best do check and change items every 15,000 miles.

1. Introductions. Jack Newman, member since September 2008.  He had a 1600, 2002, 1985 M6 and currently a 335xi.
2. Logo Items. The Golden Gate Chapter has a logo used on various items:  name tags (it is currently $8 each), T-shirts, caps, jackets, etc.  Unanimous that Jeff look into the logo usage on items further and report at the next meeting.
3. Club Events.
   1. Blackhawk Musuem. Russ Huntoon gave an overview of the Blackhawk Museum for July 16 and 17.  The route has been changed due to the I-80 work being done.  There is still an iceberg in Lake Tahoe and some snow to road level, which is very unusual as we know.  Will use Highway 40 and go through Antioch.  Leave Saturday morning and stay overnight at the Marriott in San Ramon with dinner in Berkeley.  Tour will be Sunday, 10 am; then will be on your own.
   2. Lincoln County Wine Trip. DeArmond Sharp gave an update.  Trip is being expanded to Calavaras and Amador, September 16 and 17.  In Plymouth there are still seven rooms available at the Shenandoah Inn (until August 15).  Send a message to the webmaster about attending.  Will leave Saturday about 8 am, first stop may be the Ironstone Vineyard at Murphy, then Plymouth, a few other stops and back to the Inn.
   3. Events Calendar. John English was happy to state that basically done for the year.  Blackhawk and Wine Tour are set up.  There will be no Gilson Show and Shine this year due to a competing event at the Golf Tournament which is supporting Children’s Cabinet this year and dual support by Mercedes.  Christmas party ideas are welcome, send any you would like considered during upcoming meetings; have to resolve early enough to reserve space.
4. Driving Events – Jeff Warner.
   1. Tire Rack Street Survival. Will be held on Saturday, September 10, Mt. Rose Ski Resort Parking Lot.  This time there will be use of indoor bathroom and classroom.  Fire truck will be there, students will use their own cars.  Need volunteers as coaches to sit in the cars with the kids.  It will be straight ahead braking.  Starting age is 15 (with permit) to 22 years old.  Need 30 participants.  Would like to have 30+ workers, coaches, etc.  Do not have to be club members to work this day with the students.
      More information next month.  SCCA and Consumer Reports have also gotten involved in driver training.  Need a flyer to give to schools and Heath Morrison, the Superintendent.  Also should put on the web site and any other venues where it would be seen.  Jeff will make up a flyer.  Jeff was still looking into the Driver’s Edge group (program uses grant funds for public education) that will be up at the Washoe County site.  The charge there is $4000 a day.  They will have 1100 kids there for free.  This is not a Sierra Chapter BMWCCA sanctioned event and has no insurance coverage.
   2. Reno-Fernley. Non-club event, in October.  It is too big to do by ourselves – may combine with Mercedes, Porsche, Mini Club, Volvo and perhaps even Ford.  Prices for at least 30 cars that are needed are prohibitive.  It is $500-600 in California.  We could maybe do it for $250 to $300.  Format would be open to spouses.  Ernie Zanrosso and Jeff were at the track for a full day recently.  Per car cost would be established if we had safety training for spouses.  For a first time, it would be the $250-300 and would include all exercises until about 2 pm.  Then there would be groups on the track and do the lead-follow for the line.  Thus it would be a full day for the spouses.  Run groups would be based on skill level.
      This is not a BMW CCA sanctioned event because CCA instructors will not be in the cars.  Insurance is provided by the track. Ambulance, paramedics and corner works are provided.  There will be four BMWCCA instructors, which will not be nearly enough.
      October 1 date is motorcycles (first available date), so discarded and October 9 is the Mustang Club that is penciled in.  Mustang Club has never done the format before.  Pro Control will have a curriculum set up.  Weekends are open after that for the rest of October.  There would be a test and tune day for the guys; no racing allowed.  If racing is done, car will be pulled off the track.  More information next month.

   1. Tire Rack Street Survival.  Boreal pushed us back, so that event will not occur with the Sacramento Chapter.  Will try to connect with Fallon AFB again for a date in August through October.  This is not a Sierra Chapter BMW CCA sanctioned event and has no insurance coverage.
   2. Fernley Test and Tune Day, Thursday, June 16. Cost is $225 for full day; $150 for half day.  Need the attendee numbers by this weekend; will need to have a helmet. Contact Jeff Warner if participating.  This is not a Sierra Chapter BMW CCA sanctioned event and has no insurance coverage.
   3. LeMons Reno-Fernley.  Bring all your own stuff.  It is wild and crazy. Obviously it has nothing to do with BMW CCA.  Contact Jeff Warner or John English for information.  This is not a Sierra Chapter BMW CCA sanctioned event and has no insurance coverage.

   1. Tahoe Gal Cruise, June 25, Saturday, $5 for insurance, $40 for cruise.  Meet
      between Raley’s and Starbucks at Sierra Summit. This is a BMW CCA sanctioned event and BMW CCA members may participate.  Membership will be verified
      for insurance purposes.  Our insurance limits us to current members of BMW CCA.
   2. Spectre 341 Challenge, June 17-19, 2011 – Virginia City.  The challenge hill
      climb pits muscle cars and imports against the clock in a full-throttle blast
      up Highway 341.  A local vendor needs drivers for vehicles to be on display at this event.  They would be driven from Reno to Virginia City and back (not raced).  May be multiple trips if interested in a variety of vehicles.  (See www.spectre341challenge.com for details on the event.)  This is not a
      Sierra Chapter BMW CCA sanctioned event and has no insurance coverage.
4. Russ Huntoon thanked Gilbert Dayao for the great barbecue during the Genoa Drive Saturday, June 4.  Great day all the way around.
5. John English asked about interest in theBlackhawk Museum overnight event.  All
   roads would be off-freeway the entire way. Let him know if the July 16-17 date is suitable or not.  Need to get the numbers submitted.
6. Mini Facility Tour.  Would be done before leaving Pearce for dinner at LeVecchia; 19 participating.

   1. Tahoe Maritime Museum is $4 per person admission, $5 for insurance.  Meet at 915 am between Raley’s and Starbucks at Summit on Saturday, May 21.
   2. Genoa City Drive and Gilbert Barbecue will be June 4, Saturday.  Meet at Sierra Summit 10 am.  May bring desserts if you want; not required.
   3. Tahoe Gal Cruise, June 25, Saturday, $5 for insurance, $40 for cruise.  Meet between Raley’s and Starbucks at Sierra Summit.
3. Melissa Nicholas had an additional event:  Mini Meets West.  It will be June 21 through 24 at the Cal Neva.
4. Art Ona distributed invitations available for the Sport Haus Open House on Friday, May 20, from 5 to 9 pm.  It is not a BMW sanctioned event.  This is only an invitation of a re-opening by the original owner.
5. Dinner locations discussion.  Art had spent much time contacting various restaurants and there was a problem with almost all locations.  Great Basin said two weeks before, they did not know.  BJs did not do separate checks.  Pinocchio’s was the same, no separate checks, as several others mentioned.  Some do not like Sushi, some do not like Mexican food, some do not like the price of the meals.  There was a reservation at La Posada tonight.  Dody asked for a show of hands of how many preferred LaVecchia than any other restaurants mentioned thus far.  Overwhelming majority for La Vecchia and the food.
6. Dinner. Reservations were at La Posada this evening.  Headcount of 18 for dinner.  Members could proceed to La Posada.

1. Introductions. Lex Amastassatos is new tonight, has a 2000 M5, is in the National Guard, back from Afghanistan recently.
2. Events.
   1. Virginia City Drive – John English -$5 a person, has a map and sign up sheet. Same route as last year: 431, 28, 50, Carson, 50, 341, Truck Route to Virginia City. After leaving McDonald’s/Raley’s at 10 am, will stop midway at the flat spot – and no red car in front this time please. Will drive up to Incline and stop briefly at Starbucks. Lunch at The Palace. Might be some costume guests from the historical society or other organizations in Virginia City.
   2. Tahoe Gal Trip Cruise with Sacramento Valley – John English – Tahoe Gal Trip on June 25. Trying to put it together. More information later. Jeff Warner reminded everyone that there are 13 shadows on Mount Rose Highway, so use caution.
   3. Driving Event – Jeff Warner – June 26 at Boreal. Boreal said they need two more weeks to get on it as a function there. We could do Mount Rose again if Boreal is not available he told Sacramento. Jeff and Mike Dietel went to the proving ground off Parr Boulevard where police and fire fighters train. The site would work well. They charge a lot for everything; the skid pad is huge. TMCC and Washoe County own it. Driver’s Edge in Las Vegas, run by Jeff Payne (CEO) and Bruce Mackey, Nevada Office of Traffic Safety, has a great turnout at their events which is sponsored by Bridgestone. Jeff will contact them to see how participation is obtained. Their last event was four days and 1100 kids; they provide the cars. There is very little hands on time, which Street Survival is mostly hands on, and it is free. http://www.driversedge.org/ Street Survival needs to get out to the parents. Art Ona can notify State Farm and there is another insurance company who supports the program also. We need more participation to get it filled for the day.
3. Amador Wine Trip – DeArmond announced that is changed from October to September 17 and 18 since there are no rooms available in October.
4. Dinner Choices Following Meeting. Art said the dinner was fantastic last month at Great Basin and would like to visit there again in May. June may be EG Sushi and Pinocchio’s is opening again. Other options could be Silver Peak and Famous Dave’s Barbecue (where Hollywood Video used to be). Express your preferences.
5. Future Meetings. May meeting – Mike Dietel will give a presentation.
6. Dinner would be at LeVecchia – about 18 attending.

1. Dinner would be at Great Basin Brewery, if possible.  They did not take reservations; therefore, Art Ona called for a headcount when the meeting began so it could be called in.  Word came back later that delaying after 7 PM a little bit would probably be okay for the group.  Dinner had gone well at La Posada Real (Longley/South McCarran) last month.
2. Introductions – Andrew Geraci was from Colorado and his membership had been transferred to our chapter.  He is up at UNR and has a 2005 M3.
3. Website presentation – Carol Villar outlined all of the changes and the many new functions.  She is still working on it.  Very impressive compared to previous sites.  Jim Goodfellow commented that the English Alpina Club has great references for older cars.
4. TKO Event is to be held on Friday, March 25.  Follow the barbecue smell; there are no signs advertising the facility at 1316 Capital Suite 103 off South McCarran.  (Gilbert not available to give more detailed information.)
5. Virginia City Drive Event, April 16, Saturday, meet at 930 am at South Meadows Raley’s and will ask for $5 per person for insurance.  Will proceed up Mount Rose Highway 50 and end at Virginia City for lunch at the Palace Restaurant.
