9:00am – Starbucks/Raleys Parking Lot, 1^st poker card draw Head-up Mt Rose Hwy (NV-431) over the summit, right on NV/CA-28 past Kings Beach .  Turn right on CA-267 (N Shore Road) towards Truckee, CA for approx 10.3 miles.  Turn Left on Brockway Road through roundabouts for approx. 1.0 mile to Truckee River Regional Park for potty break and 2^nd poker card draw.

10:00am – Leave TRR Park turning right on Brockway road, turns to Bridge St.  Right on Donner Pass Road until roundabout on CA-89.  Travel approx. 23 miles to Sierraville and then left on CA-49, stop at highway turnout immediately after Sierraville for pictures and 3^rd poker card. Continue 4.7 miles past Sattley.  Continue, this is the fun part! – 12.6 miles of dangerous curves, to Bassets (gas station/small store and highway maintenance station). Will draw the 4^th poker card at Bassets parking lot.

11:00am – Leave Bassets turning onto Gold Lake Hwy (CR-S620), travel approx. 7.6 miles to Gold Lake for pictures then continue for 15.4 miles to CA-89, entering Graeagle.  Turn left on CA-89 for approx. 1.7 miles to Graeagle-Johnsville Road.  Travel approx. 1.6 miles to Poplar Valley Road, turn right and travel straight to Plumas Pines Golf Course/ Longboards Bar and Grill for lunch! …and final poker card draw and prize award!). Lunch will be The Bluff with glorious views and delicious food.

Approximately a 1.5 hour drive from Reno, the majestic Sierra Buttes located in Northern California on the spine of the sierras are sure to to amaze you! The drive takes you through beautiful valleys and through craggy peaks of the Buttes. During our drive we make approx., 5 beautiful scenic stops for photos and to draw cards for our Poker Run. The last card drawn ends our drive at Longboards Bar & Grill located on the beautiful Plumas PInes Golf Course where we meet for a leisurely and very enjoyable lunch and the winner of the poker run will be given a prize (to be determined).

De Sharp checked with the Shenandoah Inn for room availability for June 14, 2014 but because the Barbera Festival is a big event, Shenandoah requires, that you stay at least two nights. They have very few rooms left, so if you want to stay at the Shenandoah Inn for two nights, you should call now (209) 245-4491.

Alternatively, De has blocked rooms at the Days Inn in Sutter Creek (209) 767-9177. When you call, ask for the Sierra BMW Club rooms. Sutter Creek is not far from Plymouth, and there are several restaurants there for dinner Saturday night. You can, of course, always drive back to Plymouth for breakfast at the Dead Fly Diner on Sunday.

If you want to go to the Barbera Festival, be sure you buy your tickets on March 1^st or soon thereafter as possible because last year the Festival sold out in 7 days.

WHEN: Saturday, May 11^th Gate Opens @ 7:30am

WHERE: Reno-Fernley Raceway (1965 Hwy 95A Fernley, NV 89408)

VENUES: CAR CONTROL CLINIC* or ROAD COURSE (Novice, Intermediate, Advanced)
*Car Control Clinic mandatory if no prior track experience

• Lead-Follow Instruction for Novice and Intermediate groups w/on-board instructors as available
• Advanced group can be solo (when cleared) w/on-board instructors as available and desired

COST: $225 per participant (Lunch included)

Details:

1. “First-Timers,” those who have NO prior track experience, will be required to do the Car Control Clinic for the day.  It will conclude with two lead-follow lap sessions.  Sorry, NO EXCEPTIONS.
2. There will be three run groups: (1) Novice, (2)  Intermediate, (3) Advanced.  Lead-follow instruction will be used for the first two groups, with individual instructors assigned to cars as available.  The Advanced group, those with prior RFR experience and a “cleared solo” approval from Pro Control, can run solo… or with an instructor as available and desired.
3. Lunch will be provided for all participants.
4. In a nutshell (1) Gate opens @ 7:30am  (2) Tech inspection starts as soon as you sign in  (3) Short drivers’ meeting with first cars on-track @ 9:00 (4)  Finish @ 5:00pm

They will learn to look far enough ahead to anticipate unwise actions of other drivers. As the students master the application of physics to drive their cars, they will make fewer unwise driving actions themselves. They will understand why they should always wear their own seatbelts, and why they should insist that their passengers wear seatbelts, too.

Come join us for a Mystery Wine Tour, Saturday and Sunday, June 8-9, 2013. That’s right… we’re going on an overnight tour to wineries you’ve probably never heard of in a place you’ve probably never been! Sound like fun? We’ll drive some great roads, enjoy some good food (…and wine!), meet some great people and generally have the usual BMW Club great time!!! The tour is limited to 12 cars so sign up early!

We’ll meet at 8 AM at McDonalds off 395 North at Lemmon Drive on Saturday morning, June 8. At that time we’ll provide you with the itinerary and plans for the weekend. Have a full tank of gas and be prepared for some fun driving! Bring a picnic lunch you can enjoy at our first winery stop. Dinner will be a casual affair at a great restaurant. We’ve reserved hotel rooms for Saturday night. Return home on your own time on Sunday (we’ll provide some suggested routes). It’s all pay-as-you-go – nothing up-front except your commitment. This event began in 2008 with the cooperation of the local Audi, BMW and Porsche car clubs.  Today, the event has grown to include cars, trucks and even motorcycles of all makes and models, domestic and foreign.

Every year, Gilson Autobody Inc. chooses a recipient for the proceeds from this charity fundraising event.  This year’s recipient is the Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program.  Began in 1948, Sky Tavern has taught over 100,000 individuals to ski or board.  Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and is dedicated to providing any and all children the opportunity to learn snowsports regardless of physical or financial limitations.

The event will include raffles, live auctions, food, music, local radio stations and other entertainment including some very special guests!  Come by with the family for an afternoon of fun in the sun and see hundreds of show quality vehicles.  Register your own vehicle for this event and a chance to win some wonderful prizes!

ROUTE: We’ll meet at the Sierra Summit Theater’s Parking Lot (park in the area closest to Mt Rose Hwy) @ 9:00am. We’ll head south on 395 then take a slight right unto 88 (at around Minden). We’ll continue on 88 for about 80 miles and take a slight right onto Volcano Pioneer Road to the Black Chasm Cavern National Park. We have reservations for two tours (22 max in each) at 12:00 noon and 12:20 pm but need to arrive by 11:45. Tours are $13.95/person (click here for coupon). After the tours we’ll head to Theresa’s Place, 1235 Jackson Gate Road (15 miles from Volcano). An Italian style Dinner (or “Linner” [Lunch+Dinner]) awaits us around 2:30-2:45, for $16.50/person (inlcudes tax & tip) but not bar.  The menu will be: Minestrone Soup and Salad, family style, Pesto pasta, Sirloin, bread and butter, coffee, iced tea, and ice cream.

Black Chasm Cavern was designated a National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service in 1976 after being recommended by local members of the National Speleological Society, and as such is considered a “nationally significant natural area.”
Visitors to the cave are enchanted by the beauty of a wide variety of formations including stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones and the vast arrays of rare helictite crystals, for which Black Chasm Cavern is justly famous.
Our new 3,000 square foot Visitors Center provides information on Black Chasm Cavern’s connection to the Matrix trilogy, and displays props from the movies: huge manufactured stalagmites from the Zion set. In addition, information is displayed on the discovery and mapping of numerous fragile, highly decorated, small chambers in Black Chasm Cavern by a team headed by Dr Hazel Barton who starred in the iMax movie “Journey into Amazing Caves“.

We’ll begin at Noon on Friday, May 18^th, with the drive to Larkspur, where we overnight at the Courtyard Marriott at Larkspur Landing ($159 per night).  After a “social hour” in the hotel garden (BYOB), we’ll walk to dinner at a local brew pub (order from menu)!
Following a leisurely breakfast Saturday morning at the hotel (not included in hotel rate), we begin our drive North up California Route One – the Pacific Coast Highway – at 9 AM.
150 miles of gorgeous views, twisting roads, and scenic overlooks enchant us as we drive to Mendocino/Fort Bragg.
Along the way we’ll stop in Point Reyes for a coffee/bio break and we’ll have lunch overlooking the ocean at the Timber Cove Inn (order from menu).
Mendocino, the location of fictional Cabot Cove, home to Jessica Fletcher of “Murder, She Wrote”, is a favorite seaside getaway.  Charming Victorian homes, delightful art galleries, unique craft and gift shops are all part of the Mendocino experience.  Photo opportunities abound as the Pacific surf crashes against Mendocino Head!
Our hotel Saturday night will be the Holiday Inn Express in Fort Bragg ($139 per night). We’ll settle in and then enjoy dinner at a Mendocino/Fort Bragg restaurant(exact restaurant to be confirmed).
Sunday breakfast and return trip to Reno are on your own.  We’ll provide some suggested routes and sites along the way.

WHEN: Saturday & Sunday, July 16^th & 17^th Time & Location @8:00 AM Meet @ Sierra Summit Theatre Parking Lot on Mt. Rose Hwy (13965 South Virginia Street, Reno )

ROUTE: We will meet at the Sierra Summit Theatre’s Parking Lot (park in the area closest to Mt Rose Hwy). We will head south on 395 to Minden. A quick stop at the Minden Starbuck’s to pick up additional members. Then south on Hwy 88 to Woodsford, left onto Hwy 89, then right onto Hwy 4. We’ll follow 4 to Stockton (through Arnold, Murphys, Angels Camp – we’ll stop for lunch – restaurant to be determined). We’ll continue on Hwy through Antioch to Pittsburgh, then Hwy 680 to San Ramon. We should arrive around 4pm for check in at the Courtyard by Marriott on 18090 San Ramon Valley Road, 1-925-866-2900. Dinner will be at Spengers Restaurant in Berkley (time TBD).  We’ll meet for breakfast (time and location TBD) and head out to the museum for the 11:00 a private tour. After the tour members will be on their own for getting home (the quickest way is probably Hwy 80). (Click here for the mapped Route)

ROUTE: We started at the Raleys/Starbucks on Mt Rose Hwy @10AM and stopped at the Starbucks in Incline Village and then headed around North Lake Blvd (Hwy 28) to Tahoe City to meet up with the Sac Valley Chapter at the Tahoe Gal which left at 12:30PM sharp. After the cruise everyone returned at their leisure.

About Genoa City: What started out as a lean-to and a few supplies in 1850, grew into the Town of Genoa by 1851. Douglas County and Carson Valley history is very young, an important chapter in the romantic “Old West”. Explorers and trappers made their way through this area but it wasn’t until June of 1851 when John Reese and his party built a trading post that the area began to attract settlers and became a permanent settlement. Reese and his men took up land claims extending from the Walley’s Hot Springs marsh area south of Genoa into Jack’s Valley on the north. Since most of the men in Reese’s party were Mormon, the location became known as Mormon Station. After building a trading post, Reese built a house and sent for his family in New York. ROUTE:We’ll start at Raleys/Starbucks on Mt. Rose Hwy (431) and around the North Lake Blvd (Hwy 28) arriving at the Tahoe House (~10:30AM) to sample their pastries and then on to the museum for the tour. (Click here for the mapped Route).
