2021 March Second Saturday Drive (SSD)

March 13, 2021

Greetings Sierra Chapter Members,

Mother nature made it loud and clear that our plans for the February drive were not to be.  With that in mind, we are going to run this drive again for March. So far it looks like the weather window will be OK, but as always the final decision will be made morning of and assuming no chain controls are required along the route we will run as planned.

As promised, this months Second Saturday Drive (SSD) is 100% paved roads.  The link to the planned route is below.  We will be meeting at the Raley’s off of Golden Valley Road (1075 N Hills Blvd, Reno, NV 89506) on the south end of their parking lot.  The Raley’s does have a Peat’s Coffee inside for those that need a boot before we depart. Gathering starts at 9:30 to sign the waiver and socialize from a distance for a bit, we will depart at promptly at 10:00am.

The drive route takes us North on US-395 toward CA-70 (Hallelujah Junction) where we will head west toward CA-89.  Once we reach CA-89 we will head south toward Graeagle and on to Truckee where we will end the drive in the parking lot near the FiftyFifty Brewing Company (11197 Brockway Rd #1, Truckee, CA 96161) in Truckee.  They are open for Lunch on their covered patio if you are interested in giving them a try.  I highly recommend them, they also make some amazing beers if you are a beer drinker.  Given our still living under the cloud of Covid-19, we will not be dining as a group, but there are a number of places in Truckee proper.  We will leave you to your own devices to make your way home at your leisure.

I certainly hope to see you on this drive, but understand if you can’t make it.  We will keep doing this each month throughout the year, so please do try to attend one as the weather starts to warm up and hopefully the Covid restrictions start to lessen.

Finally, if you have a favorite route or place to visit that you think others would enjoy, please let me know. The primary intent of the SSD is to keep the time frame in the 2 – 2½ hours long time-frame, but anything is up for discussion and consideration. If it is a longer drive, we might just make it an regular RSVP based event on a 3rd or 4th weekend. I would love to hear your ideas.

Until next time, keep the rubber on the road!
