2021 January Second Saturday Drive (SSD) Kick Off
Happy New Year!
I hope this email finds you well and that you had a great holiday season. For those that have not met me yet, I am Lance Taylor-Warren, your new Chapter President. As I announced at the Holiday Party last month, we are kicking off a new monthly drive event that I am calling the ‘Second Saturday Drive’, or SSD for short. This event is meant to give you an excuse to get out and drive your BMW at least once a month.
I look forward to seeing you on the drives and also welcome suggestions for routes that you might like to see us take, The idea is drive to places that you think others might enjoy and maybe even didn’t realize existed. Drives should be in the 2-3 hour time frame and ideally end near a location for the group to have lunch before heading home.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

The rules/requirements are easy.
- You do NOT have to be a member of the Chapter to participate (Bring a friend to introduce them to the BMW CCA and our Chapter).
- No reservations are needed, We meet at the starting point starting at 9:30am on the second Saturday and leave promptly at 10:00am. If you are able to join us, please do. If you can’t make it, no big deal; we will miss you and hope to see you on the next one.
Now for the details of this month’s kick off drive:
We will be meeting and leaving from the Raley’s (18144 Wedge Pkwy in Reno) parking lot behind the Starbucks on Wedge Parkway south of Reno off the Mt. Rose Hwy at 9:30am and leave promptly at 10:00am. Our drive will take us up Geiger Grade to Virginia City and then down Six Mile Canyon Rd. After reaching Hwy 50, we will cross Hwy 50 and proceed down Fort Churchil Rd to US 95A. This part of the drive is an unpaved road that is in overall good condition. It does not have any major rutting or pot holes, just some wash boarding in a number of places along the 15 mile stretch. (If this is a show stopper for you, I understand and hope you will join us on other drives that will not leave paved roads.) Once we reach US 95A, we will head north and take Ramsey’s Cutoff to get to US 50. At US 50 we will dogleg right to get to USA Parkway and then take it back toward Interstate 80. The drive will end just short of the Interstate 80 on ramp where there are several places to eat, from your usual fast food joints to a fairly decent Philly Cheese Steak Place. Due to Covid-19, we will not dine as group, after we end the drive you are free to dine in the local area or jump on Interstate 80 and head back to Reno.
Refer to the map below, please note the specific directions are not meant to be followed turn by turn. I had to select some odd locations on the map to force the route to be where I intended the drive to go. Please use it as a general guideline for the route.

A minor housekeeping issue to make note of; there are no places to stop for a nature call (Bathroom Break) along the route once we leave Virginia City, so please plan accordingly.
