June 29, 2019

NOTE: Club Events are for Sierra Chapter Members Only

Meet at 10:00 am at the Safeway/Starbucks in Fallon. 890 W Williams Ave, Fallon, NV. It’s in the middle of town on the left in the back of a shopping center across the street from the Depot Casino & Diner. Park on the Starbucks side. Starbucks is in Safeway. We need to do our paperwork here. Allow approximately 75 to 90 minutes from from Reno or Carson City to Fallon. Make sure you have gas. There is a Maverick Gas Station by Safeway.

We will leave at approximately 10:30 am to Middlegate for an early lunch. Old Middlegate Station is on highway 361. Just off US 50. After lunch we will head to Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park. There is a $5 entrance fee.

Click here to open the route in a new window.

The Ichthyosaur tour starts at 2pm.

The last stretch of road to the park is gravel, but well graded like a dirt parking lot. The road to the Ichthyosaur tour is rougher. We can car pool up there.

Unfortunately the mine tour is no more due to safety concerns.

Hope to see you all there. You will see a lot different Nevada on this tour.

I WANNA GO!!! Fill out the form below…

Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park contains a town built in the 1890s that is preserved in a state of arrested decay. A true Nevada ghost town, many of Berlin’s original buildings remain and some of its original residents are interred in the town’s cemetery. Trails throughout the town site tell the story of Berlin and its mine. The park is also home to the most abundant concentration, and largest known remains, of Ichthyosaurs, an ancient marine reptile that swam in a warm ocean that covered central Nevada 225 million years ago. The fossils are protected and displayed at the park’s Fossil House.
