From the President’s Desk

I mentioned in the last quarterly eNewsletter that we had some events cancelled due to lack of snow and the sale of Gilson Autobody, but the Virginia City Tour went off without a hitch. Thanks again to John English for organizing the ride. I believe everyone had a great time!

On July 12th, the club had it’s second annual Summer Picnic. This year we held it at Bower’s Mansion which is half way between Reno and Carson City just off Rt. 580. We had our own pavilion right next to the playground so it was perfect for the kids to play and pass the time away. Andy Goodrich did the grilling honors again this year. The burgers, sausages and hot dogs were delicious. All the members brought salads, appetizers and desserts so we had plenty of food. The Mazuryk’s even brought some pizzas for the group. A big thank you to Sharon Goodrich for putting this all together again this year. We had 20 families show up which was a wonderful turnout.

In August we have two events which the club looks forward to each year. August 8th is the Sierra Buttes Tour/Poker Run. If you haven’t tried it yet, come join us. We end up having lunch at Longboard’s Bar & Grill at Plumas Pines Golf Resort. Andy and Sharon Goodrich are taking the lead again this year and I know they will have a nice gift for the winner of the Poker Run. On August 13th, we will have out annual Potluck meeting at our house. We had 40 members come last year and I would love to beat the record this year for member attendance so sign up and come to ArrowCreek for a great time.

I know it is a year away but BMWCCA is coming back to Monterey for the 2016 Oktoberfest in August! This is a very special Oktoberfest because it marks the 100th year of BMW. There are very good rumors that BMW is bringing over many of the classic BMW’s from their museum. Jeff Warner mentioned in our meeting a few months ago that he will be attending and would love to have many of the club members attend. Stay tuned for more information in the coming newsletters but make a mental note to try and come next year!!
Happy motoring,
Pat McGoff

2015 Virginia City Drive

2015 Virginia City Drive

If you didn't get to join us Saturday, May 16th on the Virginia City Drive you can still share our experience (then you may want to join us on our next drive!).

We lucked out on the weather since it rained the previous day and the day after the event. We had a total of 15 cars this year which tied the record from the previous year. We traveled over Mt. Rose Highway stopped at the Lake for a Kodak moment, then on to Incline Village for a rest stop at Starbucks. Jeff Warner met us there to say hello. He still doesn’t have his M5 in working order so he didn’t join us. We continued down Lake Tahoe and up Rt. 50 to Carson City. From there we went up Rt. 341 to Virginia City for a great lunch at the Palace Restaurant. Food and service at the Palace were great as always.

2015 2nd Annual Family Picnic

2015 2nd Annual Family Picnic

If you didn't get to join us Sunday, July 12th at our picnic you can still share our experience (then you may want to join us on our next event!).

This years’ Second Annual Family Picnic at the Bowers Mansion turned out to be another success with a fun summer time feel!  There were more children this year, and a convenient playground, and expansive lawn area for all to enjoy. Once again, GrillMaster Andy served up some great burgers, hotdogs & sausages while Club Members brought an assortment of great side dishes including but not limited to:  salads, pizzas and even Filipino appetizers.

Tours of historic Bowers Mansion was enjoyed by some, while others played games such as: horseshoes, Assassin, and participated in hoola-hoop and pie-eating contests!  It was all fun and games until someone got hurt as two of the ‘big boys’ had their own version of hoola-hoop and one, Jeff Whitesides, scored in winning a trophy for his very graceful movement which now will forever be referred to  as a  “Whitesides”.  This graceful movement resulted in a broken tibia and fibia at the ankle requiring surgery. Our best for a speedy recovery to Jeff.

European Baby

European Baby

The Goodriches had a wonderful time touring Europe with the help of their newest addition to the family, a 228iM sport in Estoril blue with Terra interior.  From the time we stepped into the Welt and were entitled to the ‘red carpeted elevator’ to the tour of the factory we had a fabulous time. We drove from Munich to Stuttgart,  onwards to Strasbourg, France and dropping off the car in Zurich adding 560 miles to the original 1.2 miles as it was delivered with and taking a train to Venice to end with an 8-day cruise to Croatia, Greek Isles, and Istanbul .  The fond memories followed us home with one ticket addressed to “Frau Goodrich” for exceeding the speed limit in Germany.  Something we noticed and inquired into was that many BMW owners in Germany remove the identifying series number off of their cars as to not flaunt their status.   All in all a great trip was had, although I was disappointed I could not exceed 125 mph on the Autobahn  due to the new car breaking in period.

Villars @ The BMW Welt & Museum

Villars @ The BMW Welt & Museum

This summer after Brandon's High School graduation, the Villar's jetted off to Germany-Switzerland-Austria. Since it was Brandon's first time in Europe, we hit all the car museums (BMW, Porsche, Mercedes Benz and Hangar-7)! In addition to seeing great cars (in museums and on the street), we also went to Piz Gloria (On Her Majesty's Secret Service) in the Alps, Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles, and Salzburg (where we saw an i8 on the street).

Sadly, we did not take European Delivery but we did rent a BMW 320d touring (not a wagon) which we enjoyed greatly on the Autobahn!

So sit back, relax and take the museum tour with us (click here to video slideshow).

RSVPing for a Club Event

RSVPing for a Club Event

We are trying to make RSVPing for Club Events easier and have put together what is hopefully a simpler and easier-to-use Event RSVP process.

New Process:
Instead of sending an invitation through the Gmail calendar (which some folks are having an issue with) and then sending a separate "evite" to get potluck signups, etc. we will simply send an email with the link to the RSVP page for the event.  Complete the form and you are ready to go.  NOTE: THIS WILL NOT ADD THE EVENT TO YOUR CALENDAR, you will have to add it manually. All of our events will still appear on our website calendar. I have created two examples for you to look at on our TEST site:
Example 1: Sierra Buttes Poker Run (http://is.gd/onuquj)  which only requires an RSVP.
Example 2: The Hot August Night Potluck (http://is.gd/ejuhal) which requires a food sign up.

Remember the examples above are on a TEST site for you to preview. We will be rolling this out to those going to the Wine Tour and then the Holiday Party.

If you have any questions, please email me at WebMistress@SierraBMWCarClub.org
